At Akihabara market in Japan you can already buy Pioneer´s new DVR-K15/SP (DVR-K15/1 code), the first slim multi-format DVD burner with DVD-R DL support. The price is set to ¥14,980 (~$145).

DVR-K15/1

Novelty´s speed formula is 4x DVD±R DL / 8x DVD±R / 8x DVD+RW / 6x DVD-RW / 24x CD-R / 24xCD-RW. The package includes PowerProducer3, PowerDVD6, Power2Go4 and InstantBurn software.

DVRP-UP8AS

Besides, late in March a similar USB 2.0/1.1 external optical drive will be available from IOData under the name of DVRP-UP8AS. It price is expected to be ¥26,400 (about $253).

Fujitsu to sample 120GB 2.5" hard drives in May

Fujitsu Corporation announced the new 2.5" hard drive with industry-record capacity of 120GB (sampling starting in May). Besides, a number of simpler models of 40GB/60GB/80GB/100GB capacity (MHV2xxxAT series) are being prepared as well.

When reading or writing the device consumes 1.6W of energy. Idle noise is at the 23dB level (vs. the 15dB of a 40GB model). Other specs include 4,200rpm speed, 12ms typical seek, 8MB buffer, 300G operating and 900G non-operating shocks.

Sized 70x100x9.5mm, the novelty weighs less than 100g.

Sharp to launch sales of new Mebius desktop on March 5

On March 5 Sharp Corporation is to start selling its new stylish "DVD-player-style" Mebius PC-TX23H desktop PC. The price is still open, but it´s expected to be about ¥260K (Windows XP Home Edition SP2 included).

Unlike the previous PC-TX26G/GS systems with 26" wide displays, the novelty will have 23" wide monitor with the following features (series´ traditional): 1366x768 (WXGA) resolution, 16:9 aspect ratio, 16M colors, approx. 500cd/m² brightness, 550:1 contrast, 16ms response, 176° viewing angles (all sides).

The system will feature a built-in TV tuner and will be able to record movies using its MPEG-2/MPEG-1 hardware encoder. As you can see on the picture, the remote control is supplied by default.

System interfaces include: analog RGB, 15-pin D-sub, S-video, Video-in (RCA pin), L/R audio-in (RCA), TV antenna input (VHF/UHF), microphone jack (3.5mm monaural), line-in/out (3.5mm stereo jacks, optical digital audio output, 4 x USB 2.0, 1 x 6-pin IEEE1394 and 1 x 4-pin IEEE1394 ports.

The main PC specifications include Celeron D 330 (2.66GHz) CPU, 256MB RAM (2GB max.), Intel 865G (with built-in graphics), DVD multi-format drive, 250GB Ultra ATA/100 HDD.

As for audio features, they are: integrated AC´97 sound, stereo speakers built into the monitor, Virtual Dolby support (Dolby Pro Logic decoder).

Sized approximately 439x326x61mm, the enclosure weighs 7.8kg. The monitor, in turn, is sized 589x223x479 and weighs about 13kg.
