dx2000 ST/CT: Entertainment PC, Hewlett-Packard version

Today Hewlett-Packard Japan launched sales of HP Compaq Business Desktop dx2000 ST/CT machines with built-in TV tuners. Judging by specs, these are inexpensive Entertainment PCs for Intel´s digital homes.

dx2000 ST/CT bases on Intel 865GV chipset with integrated graphics and Celeron D 325 (2.53 GHz) CPU. The TV tuner used is EX-VISION 1500TV. With 256 MB RAM, 8x DVD+R/RW and Windows XP Home Edition costs ¥89,250 ($870). Together with 15" BL-M15X1 LCD display, such system will cost ¥119,910 ($1,170), while it will be already ¥137,970 ($1,350) with a 17" BL-M17W1 LCD.

In any modification, these machines allow watching TV, movies and playing music without OS bootup.

AOpen XC Cube EZ855 — an SFF barebone on Pentium M

AOpen updated its SFF barebone series with XC Cube EZ855 on Pentium M / Celeron M (Socket 479) with Dothan/Banias core. The cooling is provided by a side-pipe fan that makes 30 dB noise.

EPoX introduces A925-LD8 and A955-LD8 cards on ATI GPUs

EPoX Britain announced new graphics cards on ATI GPUs — A925-LD8 (Radeon 9250) and A955-LD8 (Radeon 9550).

If you remember, early this year the company already planned to release graphics cards on NVIDIA GPUs, but cancelled this initiative after several models because card prices were too high to compete with other products.

But let´s get back to the novelties of today. A925-LD8 has 128 MB DDR SDRAM and features DVI, D-Sub and TV-Out (up to 1024x768) and supports CHARISMA ENGINE II, SMARTSHADER (DirectX 8.1), SMOOTHVISION, HYPER Z II as well as MPEG2 decoding, YUV–RGB conversions, etc.

A955-LD8 has 4 parallel pixel pipelines, 2 programmable vertex shader pipelines, 128 MB of 128-bit DDR SDRAM, DVI, D-Sub and TV-Out, AGP8x/4x. SMARTSHADER 2.0, SMOOTHVISION 2.1, HYPER Z III, VIDEOSHADER are also supported.

Both cards have 10 bit/channel 400 MHz DACs.

But looking closer you will notice the SL9AAS82DRTG605T marking is printed on a sticker, while there´s such a surprise on each chip:

I think this funny Santa and the "Merry Christmas" will be a nice surprise for any "IT specialist". I´ll only add that modules are available for ¥7,350 ($71).
