Sun UltraSPARC IV+: new dual-core CPU generation
While AMD and Intel were arguing which dual-core CPU was to be better at Fall Processor Forum organized by In-Stat MDR, Sun Microsystems introduced the next generation of its dual-core processors UltraSPARC IV+.
UltraSPARC IV+ embodies Sun Throughput Computing concept of parallel high-performance computing. By the way, if you compare UltraSPARC IV+ with future dual-core AMD Opteron and Intel Itanium/Montecito, Sun´s chip has largest cache capacity: 2 MB L2 and 32 MB L3. UltraSPARC IV+ is made at Texas Instruments facilities using 90nm process, has clock rate of 1.8 GHz and supports Chip Multithreading.
