And yet again about GeForce 6800/6800LE pipelines
Now almost all our readers and GeForce 6800/6800LE owners know that RivaTuner 15.2 can now unlock NV40 pipelines locked by hardware means, so you can try and see if they are operational.
According to stats collected at Guru3D.com, for example, 55% of users enabled all pipelines (including 4 pixel and 1 vertex of GeForce 6800). 9% enabled only pixel pipelines, and 32% of users could enable only vertex pipelines. Only 4% couldn´t enable anything, i.e. their cards had really damaged pipelines.
I have to say that:
- The first percent value should (just bound to be) lower. Artefacts are not just visible right away.
- Participants included owners of 6800 and 6800LE cards. The latter include cards that can be fully remade into 16x1
- Some of fully "remadeable" cards refuse to overclock by even 1MHz with both drivers and RivaTuner because they fail internal stress test even on 6800-non-U default clock rates. This means such cards are selected by max. clock rate. I.e. GPUs can have all 16 pixel and 6 vertex pipelines enabled, but still overheating results in failed test, so even 325 MHz become unavailable. Therefore they disable some pipelines to raise operating temperature threshold.
Besides, unlike complete 16x1,6vp cards, modified versions have 1.2V and higher core voltage (GT 1.3, Ultra 1.4). So raising voltage in BIOS might help.
iXBT.com and Digit-Life.com warn you again! Such interference in normal operation of a card might lead to bad results, so the responsibility lies solely on users trying to remade their cards.
WD Scorpio: a new 2.5" HDD
