VAIO Pocket player and CLIE PEG-VZ90 PDA: two stylish novelties from Sony
Yesterday Sony released two novelties: VAIO Pocket, a portable digital multimedia player, and CLIE PEG-VZ90 PDA.
As you remember, in July Sony unveiled VAIO Pocket in Japan, but now they became available in Europe as well. As for CLIE PEG-VZ90, the company stopped shipping it outside Japan, but we couldn´t miss it because it had an OLED display. (With a separate press release the company also launched OLED volume production.)
VAIO Pocket is a portable hard disk storage for digital music, videos, etc. It stands out of similar devices by its high-quality antiglare display (320x256, 262K colors), and Grid Sense interface (unnamed buttons to the right "push" onscreen buttons).
Sony CLIE PEG-VZ90, in its turn, has 3.8" OLED display (480x320, 262K colors) that is just 2.14mm thick and has 150 cd/m² brightness. The PDA is sized 109x87x23 mm at 270 g weight. Other specs include 128 MHz CPU, 128 MB flash memory (95 MB free for use), 64 MB RAM, Compact Flash Type II and Memory Stick slots, 802.11b adapter. The device is promised to work for up to 4 hours at video playback or 42 hours at audio playback. VZ90 operates under Japanese Palm OS 5.2.1 (not the latest Palm OS 6). It has 5 buttons instead of 4, but doesn´t have graffiti area. The novelty will go on sale in Japan on September 25 for ¥89,800 ($820).
