OCZ introduces 2 kits of registered memory modules for AMD Athlon 64-FX

OCZ Technology introduced kits of registered PC-3500 memory modules for systems on AMD Athlon 64-FX processors. If you remember, previously the company introduced OCZ PC-3200 ECC Registered EL DDR kits (512MB OCZ400512ELERDC-K and 1GB OCZ4001024ELERDC-K) with CL 2-3-2-6 timings and 2.6V voltage.

OCZ PC-3500 ECC Registered EL DDR kits will have 512MB (OCZ433512ELERDC-K) and 1GB (OCZ4331024ELERDC-K) capacities; each module in a kit has copper heatsinks. Similar to other OCZ solutions these modules were made using ULN noise reduction technology.

As usual, the press release states that modules of each kit are thoroughly tested together (on Asus SK8V). The shipments should start these days.

Photo of the day: Club-3D Volari Duo V8 Ultra in our lab

We are currently testing Volari Duo V8 Ultra graphics card from Club-3D. We doubt that Volari Duo V8 Ultra will become a product for the masses in its current form, but the detailed examination will be useful to understand XGI solutions potential and to create the foundations for future tests. However, all the details will be published in a separate review, and here I´ll just revise the specs again: 256MB of 256-bit DDR2 memory, 350/400MHz GPU/memory clock speed, D-Sub, DVI, TV-Out.

PlexWriter 52/24/52U: an inexpensive external CD-RW drive

Plextor released its new external USB2.0 CD-RW drive, PlexWriter 52/24/52U.

The model supports 52/24/52 speeds, has 2MB buffer, buffer protection, and provides 65ms data access.

The bundle includes Windows 98SE/Me/2000/XP drivers. Sized 167.8x255x55mm, it weighs 1.7kg, and can be installed either vertically, or horizontally.

Though a CD-RW release is hardly the event today, but this time Plextor positions the novelty for beginners and thus will ship it for some very attractive price. In Japan, where the model will be shipped early in March, it should cost $92.

NEC announces a new slim GSM/GPRS handset with a built-in digital camera

Today NEC announced its new slim handset N900 with a digital camera.

Sized like a credit card (85x54x8.6mm) and weighing 70 g, the novelty is still a fully-fledged GSM/GPRS device supporting Web browsing and featuring 1.8" 120x160 LCD display, 300K pixels camera, 40-tone polyphony. For more comfort the handset is bundled with a special hands-free.

Such a compact size became possible when NEC moved to the new more compact multi-layer PCBs and CSP chips. In China the new handsets will go on sale in February 2004.
