Intel officially announces 2.80GHz Celeron Photo of the day: Albatron PX848 Like Pro motherboard in our lab We are currently testing Albatron´s PX848 Like Pro ATX motherboard (PX848 Like Series) on ALi M1683 chipset. It supports Pentium 4 with 400/533/800MHz FSB; has 3 x DDR 333/266/400 SDRAM DIMM sockets, 6-channel Realtek ALC655 audio, 10/100Mbit Ethernet (3Com 3C920), AGP 8x, 5 x PCI slots (2.2-compliant), 2 x ATA133 (up to 4 x IDE devices), 3 x USB2.0/1.1 headers for up to 6 ports (2 on back panel), PS/2 keyboard/mouse connectors, etc.![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Intel 3.40GHz Pentium 4 XE and other CPU roadmap changes International Gate Insulator Workshop being held in Japan brings very interesting news on the future of Pentium 4 processors. We´ve already written about Intel´s primary presentation theme – the new high-k dielectrics for 45nm chips (see Intel: high-k dielectrics enable to reduce leakage currents by a factor of 100!) However, the Japanese audience got to know about the closest Intel´s Pentium 4 roadmap (including Prescott) as well. The latest information is that the company plans to announce the 3.40GHPentium 4 XE on 0.13µm Northwood before any Prescott-based solutions. It seems Prescott stepping C1 suitable for volume production will be sampling only by December, volume shipments scheduled to Q1 2004 (closer to February). So today they speak of 3.40GHz Northwood-based Pentium 4 as some intermediate variant to "hold on" until Prescott arrives. By the way, they also say that considering the expected announcement of Grantsdale chipsets in February, we might see Prescott chips in LGA775 packages at once. Anyway, let´s get back to the novelties. There´s sense in releasing such chips before 90nm solutions arrive, as AMD might release something like Athlon 64 FX53 and become the performance leader as well. If Pentium 4 XE is widespread, or not, it´s not clear. Let´s wait for more information... Source: PC Watch
Sony, which started intriguing the gaming society by messages about the new PlayStation Portable (PSP) as far back as in July, introduced the first prototypes at the press conference in New York.
![]() The color LCD occupies the most of PSP, so the side buttons look tiny. PSP differs from GameBoy Advance far more than N-Gage. Before Sony has promised to add an analog controller, but it seems this hasn´t been done yet. I guess the joytstick will be available as an accessory. The strap allows more comfortable handling. And the large display and features will allow to position this device not only as a gaming console, but also as a portable multimedia player.

ASUS P4S13G: the first motherboard on SiS R659 Today in the morning at RAMBUS Developer Forum Taiwan (RDF Taiwan) SiS again announced its SiS R659 chipset supporting 4-channel RDRAM, while ASUSTeK Computer announced its first motherboard on this chipset P4S13G.According to the press release, P4S13G is designed for gaming, DCC and CAD applications. The board supports Pentium 4 with 800MHz FSB and Advanced HyperStreaming Engine (AHSE). P4S13G key specs:
At the moment we don´t have any graphics content about the new boards and RAMBUS Developer Forum Taiwan in general, so I guess we´ll get back to it again these days.
Alderwood – Canterwood´s successor? Taiwanese press, referring to industrial sources, reported that this week Intel updated its Prescott-supporting chipset roadmap. Now, besides the four variants of Granstdale, the roadmap also features Alderwood core logic to replace Intel´s most powerful and expensive desktop chipset, i875P (Canterwood). Alderwood, according to provisional information, will be first introduced in Q2 2004. All we know is that it will support 800MHz FSB and dual-channel DDR2. Perhaps, the company is just trying to delimit the Socket 478 and Socket 775 markets? Today, it´s still early to speak of it.
