Elpida introduces 0.10µm 1Gbit DDR2-533 chips Japanese Elpida Memory, a joint venture of NEC and Hitachi, is going to be among the first suppliers of the new-generation DDR2 SDRAM memory. Today company announced the development of 1Gbit DDR2-533 SDRAM modules that will be manufactured in Hiroshima using 0.10µm process and 300mm silicon wafers.
![]() The new development extended the company portfolio that already includes 512Mbit DDR2. It´s interesting that Elpida manufacture technology enables to produce DDR and DDR2 in a single design (usual DDR SDRAM requires only a slight circuitry changes.) Elpida plans to use 1Gbit DDR2 SDRAM chips in various memory modules, including 4Gb server and workstation DIMMs, 2Gb unbuffered desktop DIMMs and 2Gb notebook SO-DIMMs. Samples of Elpida´s new 1Gbit DDR2 SDRAM chips are scheduled for launch in November 2003, with volume production starting early in 2004. Depending on the demand, volume shipments will make 100 to 200 thousand chips already in H1 2004.
