SiS, VIA´s plans on SiS665FX, SiS661FX and PT880 volume production
Taiwan chipset suppliers Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) and VIA Technologies
will both start volume production of new chipsets supporting dual-channel memory
and Pentium 4 processors in September, according to the companies. But the statement
seems to be not very correct as while SiS will start volume production of its
SiS665FX and SiS661FX chipsets in September, VIA expects to start producing
its PT880 chipset in small volumes in late September, with major shipments to
start in October.
All three new chipsets will be displayed at Computex 2003, the companies said. Both
companies plan to start sampling new chipsets supporting the PCI Express standard
later this year. While VIA is set to sample its PT890 in October, SiS plans
to sample its SiS656 at the end of this year.
As for the chipset trendsetter, Intel, the company to start sampling its new-generation
Grantsdale chipset supporting the PCI Express standard and Socket 775 for high-end
Prescott processors. The new chipset will be officially introduced in the second
quarter of 2004.
