Dell announces new PowerVault 770N midrange NAS server

Dell announced new PowerVault 770N midrange NAS server.

PowerVault 770N bases on two 2.40 GHz or 1.80 GHz Xeons, has up to 3GB of DDR SDRAM, Ultra320 SCSI hard disks of up to up to 438GB total capacity. Using the external PowerVault 220S U160 SCSI drive, the total capacity makes 8.6TB.

The device features redundant power supply, 10/100/1000Mbps Ethernet, Windows NAS (SAK2.5). The server supports snapshot protection, RAID 0/1/5, features 230x625x445 tower or 5U rack design, and weighs 40.9 kg. The minimal configuration (36GB hard disk) will cost $4800.

New ASKA motherboards on Intel and VIA chipsets

Silver Star, owner of the ASKA trademark, announced the production of motherboards on new Intel 845GE, Intel 845PE, and Intel 845GV chipsets, supporting Hyper-Threading P4 and DDR333. The details are to follow.

Besides, ASKA will also include new SST-5857ABD Socket A motherboard on VIA KT400. SST-5857ABD has ATX form-factor, supports DDR333 SDRAM, AGP 8õ, USB 2.0. There’s no information on the new products on the company website yet, but we hope the details are to follow as well.

Litho market: 47% downturn in 2002, growth in the future

According to Information Network analysts, the current decrease of semiconductor product demand will mostly touch manufacturers of chip making tools, in particular, litho tool makers.

According to Information Network´s new forecasts: in 2002 the global litho market will make just $3.2 billion, that’s 29% lower than $4.5 billion of 2001. On the background of 200 semiconductor boom ($6 billion sales) these values look even more humble.

From the "piece" angle the situation is even worse: only 433 systems are to be shipped in 2002, 47% lower than 822 tools of 2001 and even worse comparing to 1083 litho tools sold in 2000.

However, analysts believe the next year to be brighter. In 2003 litho shipments are expected to make $4.3 billion or 547 tools, or 25.6% industry growth. Chip makers will be most interested in new 193 nm for 90-nm production lines. Besides, next year 248-nm tools for 130-nm process are expected to start leaving the market.
