ATI Radeon 9500 and Radeon 9700 later this week?
According to The Inquirer, ATI is to announce its new Radeon 9500 GPU with 4 pipelines and Radeon 9700 along with the graphics cards this Friday, October 18. Both chips will feature 275 MHz clock, memory (Infineon or Hynix) clock will be 550 MHz.
Besides the mentioned difference, chips also differ by memory interfaces supported: Radeon 9700, some slower than Radeon 9700 PRO, supports 256-bit memory, Radeon 9500 128-bit memory. ATI Radeon 9500 card, supporting Smartshader 2.0, Smoothvision 2.0, Videoshader, Fullstream, Truform 2.0, and HyperZ III, i.e. the full number of Radeon 9700 and 9700 Pro features, is expected to have the suggested price of $179. It will become the first card below $200 fully supporting DirectX 9.

Japanese customers already got a chance to buy new Sony DRU-500A universal drive, repeatedly mentioned in our news.


Again, DRU-500A is the first drive, supporting both DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW. It features: 4x DVD-R recording, 2x DVD-RW recording, 2.4x DVD+R recording, 2.4x DVD+RW recording, 8x DVD-ROM reading. 24/10/32x CD-RW speeds; interface IDE; buffer size 8MB.
In Japan the novelty is offered for 49,800 yens (about $415). European sale dates and pricing are unavailabe.
