Pocket PC PDA from ViewSonic: details

At last we´ve got a suitable photo of the new ViewSonic V35 Pocket PC that costs just $299.

Actually the new Pocket PC 2002 device is similar to other devices: 300 MHz Xscale, 32MB Flash-ROM, 64MB RAM, SD/MMC slot, 3.5-inch 320x240 LCDm supporting 65,000 colors. So is the price so low?

Let me remind how ViewSonic representatives explain the pricing: shouldn´t a monitor maker be be the first to cut prices for Pocket PCs?

Well, the time will tell. I guess buyers are to be happy...

EPoX: EP-4PEA+ and 4GEA+ on i845PE and i845GE chipsets plus Hyper-Threading

Announcing EP-4G4A+ and EP-4BEAR mobos on 845PE and i845GE chipsets, EPoX decided to stress their Hyper-Threading support.

EP-4PEA+ and EP-4GEA+ support DDR333. EP-4PEA+, based on i845PE + ICH4 bundle, supports up to 2GB ту2700, features USB2.0, 10/100Mb Fast Ethernet (Realtek RTL8100B), IDE RAID HPT372 (Ultra DMA-133 + IDE RAID 0, 1, 0+1), 2 S-ATA ports (Silicon Image Sil3112A), IEEE1394.

Intel i845GE-based EP-4GEA+ is similar to EP-4PEA+, but also features integrated graphics.

PC1066 RIMM and Intel: first signs

Intel qualified first PC1066 RIMM modules, "new" for i850E, posting the corresponding info on this page, related to PC1066 ratification.

Samsung modules are the first (and still the only) that are qualified for i850E:

  • Samsung 128MB non-ECC 256Mb-16Mx16 MR16R1624DF0-CT9_0240
  • Samsung 256MB non-ECC 256Mb-16Mx16 MR16R1628DF0-CT9_0240
  • Samsung 512MB non-ECC 256Mb-16Mx16 MR16R162GDF0-CT9_0240
  • Samsung 128MB ECC 288Mb-16Mx18 MR18R1624DF0-CT9_0240
  • Samsung 256MB ECC 288Mb-16Mx18 MR18R1628DF0-CT9_0240
  • Samsung 512MB ECC 288Mb-16Mx18 MR18R162GDF0-CT9_0240

I guess other modules are to follow, but the most important is that it has at least started.

Japanese announce Mira alternatives

As Microsoft Windows tablets won´t appear in the market until November, and the marketing position of Mira wireless products is not clear, Japanese makers launched own initiative and announced several proprietary solutions for the consumer electronics market. Hitachi, Toshiba, and Sony announced several wireless tablets at the currently held CEATEC, though some of them have already been shown at earlier events.

Hitachi presented its 10.4-inch Flora-ie 55mi, based on 400 MHz Transmeta Crusoe-5400, 128MB RAM, and Mobile Linux. Flora supports Internet over modem, WLAN, or cellular.

Next one, 10.4-inch Toshiba BHT-1002A supports up to 800x600 and weighs 1.4 kg. BHT-1002A differs from Flora by Bluetooth support and can be used with future Bluetooth fridges, clothes washers, and microwave ovens. Internet is available over BTR-1002A access point.

As for Sony, it announced second-generation 12.1-inch Air Board, featuring monitor, dock, and base station. Air Board bases on IEEE 802.11b, and enables to watch TV and DVD, and (naturally, isn´t it) play some video games.
