LaCie Unveils Biggest Quadra 4TB 4-Disk RAID
LaCie today unveiled its Biggest Quadra, a quadruple interface, 4-disk RAID solution for workstations. It delivers data storage protection, 4TB capacity and compatibility through its FireWire 800, FireWire 400, USB 2.0 and eSATA interfaces.
The Biggest Quadra supports RAID levels 0, 0+1 and 5, as well as RAID 5+hot spare so that users can choose which configuration is best-suited to them based on security, speed, capacity or a combination of the three.
The Biggest Quadra reacts to drive, fan or power failure, and will even shut down if temperatures rise above 55 degrees Celsius (131 degrees Fahrenheit). Should a drive fail, insertion of a new drive automatically rebuilds data without any downtime.
The novelty ships with EMC Retrospect Express for Mac and PC. Since the Biggest Quadra is plug and play and driver-free, setup is quick and easy.
The LaCie Biggest Quadra will be available in September for 2TB and October for the 3TB and 4TB versions. Suggested retail price will be $1099 for 2TB, $1599 for 3TB and $2199 for 4TB. Drives ship with all cables necessary for immediate use. LaCie separately offers eSATA and FireWire 800 PCI cards.
