SMART Modular Introduces New XceedPC Product Line

SMART Modular Technologies has launched its SMART XceedPC/Geode line of embedded personal computers (PCs) based on the AMD Geode LX processor. The XceedPC/Geode line is specifically designed for use in cost-sensitive embedded PC applications such as kiosks, digital signage, and point of service (POS) systems where fanless operation, extensive I/O and communication capabilities, and an ultra-small form factor are critical.

SMART's XceedPC/Geode is a fully-functional PC that runs either Linux or Microsoft XP (Pro or Embedded) and is compatible with existing PC applications and x86 development tools. The XceedPC product line provides manufacturers with a reliable, yet cost-effective platform specifically designed for the rigors of field deployments. Dissipating an average of only 10 watts, the XceedPC/Geode is fanless, thereby increasing reliability and eliminating noise and maintenance issues. In addition, the XceedPC/Geode is 1/5 the size of an industry-standard, small-form-factor PC, and it features all front panel I/O, allowing easy integration into a variety of customer systems.

The XceedPC/Geode standard configuration includes four USB 2.0 ports, four RS232 ports, a 10/100 Ethernet port, audio, and either DVI or VGA video outputs. Configuration options allow a customer to specify the required storage (hard disk drives, solid state drives, and CompactFlash), expand the I/O, add WAN communication capabilities (analog and cellular modems), or add wireless 802.11 networking. The XceedPC/Geode is a RoHS compliant, long-life product, and SMART is committed to maintaining production of this platform for a minimum of five years.

SMART will showcase and demonstrate its Embedded Computing and TFT-LCD products at booth #325 at the Global Gaming Expo to be held in Las Vegas, Nevada, during November 14-16.
