VIA Ships 90nm VIA Eden And Eden ULV Processors
VIA Technologies began shipping new x86-compatible Eden processors made using 90nm process. Novelties are based on the Esther core also used in C7 series.
Eden and Eden ULV are distinguished by low energy consumption. The former works at 400MHz to 1.2GHz and consumes 2.5-7W. The latter consumes 3.5W at 1GHz and 7.5W at 1.5GHz.
Packed into 21x21mm nanoBGA2 bodies, the processors feature 400MHz VIA V4 bus, 128KB L1 cache and 128KB L2 cache and all key benefits of C7 series, including PowerSaver energy management technology, MMX/SSE/SSE2/SSE3 instruction sets, Windows XP Service Pack 2 "no execute" support, and PadLock security.
The new processors are intended for use in low-noise personal machines, thin clients, set top boxes and other systems that require passive cooling.
