NEC LCD Technologies Develops Two New 21.3-Inch, High-End, QXGA TFT LCDs for Professional Use

NEC LCD Technologies announced the development of two new, high-end 21.3-inch (54cm diagonal), QXGA TFT LCD modules for professional use.

The new 21.3-inch LCD, an upgraded model of NL160120BC27-10 that was commercialized in March this year, achieves the highest level of color definition in the range of color TFT LCDs supporting Adobe RGB. Its other features include an ultra-wide color gamut of 109% for Adobe(R) RGB, realized by a 3 color LED back-light system; high luminance of 250cd/m2 and a high contrast ratio of 800:1 enabled by a newly designed LCD panel based on NEC LCD Technologies' own SA-SFT technology, despite a density 1.6 times greater than that of NL160120BC27-10; simultaneous display of 1073 million colors out of a total of 68.5 billion owing to a 10bit display driver and a 12bit look up table (LUT).

The second model (for medical use) is an upgraded model of NL160120AC27-05 that was launched in April this year, this LCD module achieves the highest brightness level in the UXGA and above class of color TFT LCDs. Boasting sufficient brightness for radiogram interpretation utilization, it can be used for a combination of applications such as image diagnosis requiring high-brightness and smooth grey-scale and viewing of picture archiving and communication systems (PACS) that require a color screen to display multiple images from a range of medical tests and instruments such as endoscopes, ophthalmoscopy and ultrasound equipment. Its other features include: high luminance of 500cd/m2 and a high contrast ratio of 800:1 realized by a combination of a high-intensity, direct, back-light system and a newly designed LCD panel based on SA-SFT technology, despite a density 1.6 times greater than that of NL160120AC27-05; simultaneous display of 1073 million colors out of a total of 68.5 billion and 1024 gray-scales (more than that of a monochrome monitor with an 8bit source driver IC) out of a total of 4093 enabled by a 10bit source driver IC and a 12bit look up table (LUT).

Both new models will be displayed at FPD International 2005 being held in Pacifico Yokohama, Japan, from October 19 - 21.
