Sony Updates Three Notebook Lines
Not only Toshiba, but also Sony decided to update its notebooks series VAIO A, S and F.
The A Series includes several models with 15.4" wide displays suppporting 1280x800 resolution, TV tuners and Windows XP Home Edition (SP2). The senior VGN-AS53B bases on Pentium M 740 1.73GHz CPU and Intel 915GM Express chipset, while the junior VGN-AS33B has Celeron M 370 1.5GHz and Intel 910GML Express bundle.
The prices will range from $2,200 to $1,900. Other features of A series include 512MB DDR2, 100GB HDD, DVD burners, IEEE 802.11b/g adapters, FeliCa wireless interface, Memory Stick, PCMCIA Type II, Ethernet, 3 x USB2.0, IEEE1394 and Office Personal Edition 2003. AS53B will work for up to 2.5 hours, AS33B for 1.5 hours. Sized 373.2x276.5x37.2-46mm, each notebook weighs 3.4kg.
The A Series also includes a more powerful 17" VGN-A63 on Pentium M 750 1.86GHz CPU and Intel 915PM Express chipset, with 512MB DDR2, 100GB HDD and MOBILITY RADEON X600 graphics. Sized 405.5x280.1x42.2-45.2mm, it weighs 3.94kg.
The S Series now offers two new models: VGN-S73PB/B and VGN-S53B/S on Pentium M 750 1.86GHz, Pentium M 730 1.6GHz and Intel 915PM Express chipset. Both are to be shipped with Windows XP Professional (SP2) and Office Personal Edition 2003 and feature 512MB/256MB DDR2 memory, 80GB/60GB HDD, 13.3" 1280x800 displays, DVD burners, PCMCIA Type II, 2 x USB 2.0, IEEE1394, Ethernet, IEEE 802.11b/g.
S73PB/B is claimed to work for 3.5 hours, S53B/S – for 4.5 hours. Sized 312.5x224.8x29.9-35.4mm, each model weighs 1.95kg. The price ranges from $2,400 to $2,000.
Finally, the F Series offers five new models at once: VGN-FS71B, VGN-FS51B, VGN-FS31B, VGN-FS21B and VGN-FS21. All shipped with Windows XP Home Edition (SP2) and Office Personal Edition 2003 (excl. FS21). Besides, all noveltie feature MPEG-2 hardware coders.
All notebooks are based on Intel 915PM Express chipset and feature a number of processors: FS71B Pentium M 1.86GHz, FS51B – Pentium M 1.73GHz, FS31B Celeron M 1.5GHz, FS21B Celeron M 1.4GHz. The most powerful model has 1680x1050 display and GeForce Go 6200 graphics. Novelties have 512MB of memory (excl. FS21 that has 256MB), 100GB hard drives (though FS31B, FS21B and FS21 have 80GB and 60GB drives).
Sized 364x364.5x25.4-36.4mm, each notebook weighs 2.85kg. Battery operation is claimed to be about 2 hours. VAIO F Series systems will cost $1,300 to $2,350.
