Intel Xeon MP Truland officially announced
Intel officially announced its 64-bit Xeon MP novelties designed for multi-way systems supporting Intel Extended Memory 64) along with E8500 chipset, both being parts of the new server platform codenamed Truland. The new chipset has been developed considering the support for future dual-core Paxville CPUs expected in Q1 2006 and Intel virtualization technology.
The new platform supports PCI Express, DDR2-400 memory, DBS and improved Intel SpeedStep. Truland processors feature up to 8MB L3 cache.
Another feature of E8500 is two independent FSBs, 667 MHz each, allowing throughputs up to 10.6GB/s (tripled comparing to the previous generation, according to the press release). The intention to release servers on the new 64-bit Intel Xeon MP processors have already been declared by Egenera, Dell, Fujitsu, Fujitsu Siemens, HCL Infosystems, HP, Hitachi, IBM, Kraftway, Langchao, Lenovo, NEC, Maxdata, Samsung, Stratus, Supermicro, Tyan, Toshiba, Unisys, Wipro, R-Style and Arbyte.
In over 1,000-unit quantities the new Intel Xeon MP processors will cost:
- Performance:
- 64-bit Intel Xeon MP 3.33GHz, 8MB L3 cache: $3,692
- 64-bit Intel Xeon MP 3.00GHz, 8MB L3 cache: $1,980
- 64-bit Intel Xeon MP 2.83GHz, 4MB L3 cache: $1,177
- Value:
- 64-bit Intel® Xeon™ MP 3.66GHz, 1MB L2 cache: $963
- 64-bit Intel® Xeon™ MP 3.16GHz, 1MB L2 cache: $722
