Nokia 3220: a new model to play with light
Nokia announced the new 3220 mobile handset encased into semi-transparent Xpress-On Fun Shell with white backlight that embodies Nokia´s new initiative — Light Messaging. The model will go on sale in Europe for €250.
The essence of Light Messaging is that on receiving a Flash Message (Class 0 SMS) from a compatible device, the handset LEDs will start emit light signals in fixed intervals, so if you quickly move the phone left to right and back, you will see a readable text "in the air" (this old trick bases on our vision inertia and is also used in some illuminated boards).
Nokia 3220 also supports Java MIDP 2.0, has 128x128 display, 640x480 camera, xHTML browser, and SwampRacer an AirExpress games. According to Nokia, 3220 owners will be able to play the Survivor game (named after the TV show). Note that Xpress-on Fun Shell with backlight and joystick is not included into basic €250.
Nokia 3220 will go on sale this Summer in two variants: GSM 900/1800/1900MHz for Europe and Asia and GSM 850/1800/1900 MHz for Americas.
