Who will become a TFT LCD vendor for new Hewlett-Packard?
After merger with Compaq Computer, new Hewlett-Packard decided to select an additional partner for long-term TFT-LCD deliveries. According to Taiwanese Commercial Times, during the year Hewlett-Packard is going to place orders for 6 million notebook panels and displays among Korean, Taiwanese and Japanese manufacturers.
Currently Hewlett-Packard purchases 15-inch TFT LCD notebook panels mainly from Taiwanese Hannstar Display, that, according to provisional data, plans to increase shipments to Hewlett-Packard from 30,000 panels in June to monthly 60,000 in July-August. Hannstar plans to remain one of the leading 15-inch TFT LCD panel vendor for Hewlett-Packard at least up to the middle of 2003.
Now Taiwanese AU Optronics, Chunghwa Picture Tubes and Chi Mei Optoelectronics Group, and also Korean Samsung Electronics and LG.Philips LCD count on orders from the company. Hewlett-Packard plans to select its new partner before the end of August.
