It´s completely independent Chinese development. According to officials, first version samples Godson-1á feature 266 MHz clock rate and are made using 0.18-micron process technology. At that the energy consumption doesn´t exceed 0.5 W. The performance is said to be similar to the performance of SGI O2 MIPS R5000.
According to GZeasy, the new chip bases on MIPS architecture. And, by the way, "Godson" or rather "Gou Sheng" means that the developers wish their brainchild luck and further evolution.
