AMD Athlon MP to move to 333MHz FSB?
British The Inquirer, referring to the industry sources, reported that the announced Athlon MP 2400+ processor is one of the last in the dual-CPU 266MHz FSB line. Most likely, the next MP chip will be something like Athlon MP 2600+ with 333MHz FSB. According to rumours, such CPUs are likely to be released right after the New Year.
Naturally, nobody has any specific information today, and AMD is traditionally silent about its unannounced products. However, its recent declaration about the complete transition to the 0.13-micron process technology make such a release real enough.
The first question dual-CPU server and workstation makers will ask will refer to the availability of chipsets supporting Athlon MP with 333MHz FSB. However, there are rumours that some existing chipsets and even the produced mobos will successfully work with this bus, perhaps, requiring BIOS re-patching and, naturally, the official certification.
