Graphics Test 2: New Calico
Perhaps the second test will demonstrate different results. Let's have a look:
No, there is nothing new here. However, AMD cards look a tad better in the second test than in the first one. HD 3870 performs on a par with the 8800 GT, and HD 3850 competes with the 9600 GT and 8800 GS.
Interestingly, performance difference between the 8800 GS and 9600 GT is smaller in the second graphics test than in the first. Perhaps, the power of unified shader processors plays a smaller role here than in the first test. The 8800 Ultra card still outperforms the 9800 GTX...
Little changes with a new resolution, only the 9600 GT starts to outperform the 8800 GS when anisotropic filtering and anti-aliasing are enabled, and the gap between the 8800 Ultra and the 9800 GTX closes down. There is nothing new in the comparison of AMD and NVIDIA solutions, their performance ratios are the same. There is only one resolution left to analyze:
Performance drop of Quad SLI is smaller in this test than in the previous one, although the 1920x1200 mode again puts this 2 x 9800 GX2 system into disadvantage - high performance is necessary in high resolutions. Performance drop of the 9800 GTX relative to the 8800 GTS (based on the same GPU) still remains, and the 8800 GS still slumps in the graphics mode with anti-aliasing.
