Today we shall review three solutions from Gigabyte: a Radeon HD 6850, a GeForce GTS 450 and a GeForce GTX 460. All three are custom products equipped with custom coolers. Moreover, the two GeForce cards are factory-overclocked.

Design

Gigabyte GV-R685D5-1GD
  • GPU: Radeon HD 6850 (Barts)
  • Interface: PCIe x16
  • GPU clock rate (ROPs/shaders): 775/775 MHz (standard)
  • Memory clock rate, physical (effective): 1000 (4000) MHz (standard)
  • Bus: 256-bit
  • Stream processors: 960
  • TMUs: 48 (BLF/TLF)
  • ROPs: 32
  • Size: 250x100x33 mm
  • PCB color: blue
  • RAMDACs/TDMS: integrated into GPU
  • Outputs: Dual-Link DVI-D, Dual-Link DVI-I, DisplayPort, HDMI
  • Multi-GPU mode: hardware CrossFire
Gigabyte GV-N450OC-1GI
  • GPU: GeForce GTS 450 (GF106)
  • Interface: PCIe x16
  • GPU clock rate (ROPs/shaders): 830/1660 MHz (the standard is 783/1566 MHz)
  • Memory clock rate, physical (effective): 900 (3600) MHz (standard)
  • Bus: 128-bit
  • Stream processors: 192
  • TMUs: 32 (BLF/TLF/ANIS)
  • ROPs: 16
  • Size: 200x100x33 mm
  • PCB color: blue
  • RAMDACs/TDMS: integrated into GPU
  • Outputs: 2 x Dual-Link DVI-I, HDMI mini
  • Multi-GPU mode: hardware SLI
Gigabyte GV-N460OC-1GI
  • GPU: GeForce GTX 460 (GF104)
  • Interface: PCIe x16
  • GPU clock rate (ROPs/shaders): 715/1430 MHz (the standard is 675/1350 MHz)
  • Memory clock rate, physical (effective): 900 (3600) MHz (standard)
  • Bus: 256-bit
  • Stream processors: 338
  • TMUs: 56 (BLF/TLF/ANIS)
  • ROPs: 24
  • Size: 200x100x33 mm

Comparison with the reference design, front view

As you can see, the only reference part remaining in Gigabyte GV-R685D5-1GD is memory chip layout. Everything else was overhauled, power unit was relocated to one end of the PCB. Moreover, the new reference set of interfaces (with two Mini DisplayPort) was replaced by the more regular dual DVI, DisplayPort and HDMI. You can also see that the PCB has space for the second supplementary power connector — perhaps company's HD 6870 will be based on the same PCB.

Moving on to Gigabyte GV-N450OC-1GI. In this case only power unit was customized, and the card became longer than reference. This was probably done to provide better stability at higher clock rates.

Finally, Gigabyte GV-N460OC-1GI is nearly identical to reference and only features minor changes.

All cards have 6-pin supplementary power connectors, GV-N460OC-1GI has two.

Maximum resolutions and frequencies:

  • 240 Hz maximum refresh rate
  • 2560 x 1600 @ 60Hz max. digital resolution
  • 2048 x 1536 @ 85Hz max. VGA resolution
