Leadtek K7NCR18G-Pro (NVIDIA nForce2) Mainboard

The engineers establish a single design of the nForce2 based board, and the PCB on the integrated chipset is identical to that of K7NCR18D-Pro based on the discrete one.

  • Package of the standard design;
  • Documentation: user manual in English;
  • Cables: ATA66/100/133 and FDD;
  • Bracket with D-Sub, S-Video and Coaxial TV-Out connectors;

  • ACR expansion card with 3 FireWire ports (and PHY controller);

  • 3 CDs containing:
    • drivers;
    • DirectX 8.1;
    • Adobe Acrobat Reader;
    • Leadtek Speed Gear;
    • Award Winflash;
    • Cool 3D 3.0 SE;
    • Ulead Video Studio 6.0.

The downsides are IDE and FDD placed behind PCI slots and audio-ins place in front of them; besides, the power supply connector is put in the center, next to the CPU socket. It can be difficult to reach some jumpers when the board is already installed. Their functions are shown on the textolite.

3-channel switching voltage regulator incorporates 2 capacitors of 2200 uF and 8 of 1500 uF.

Integrated controllers:

  • audio controller based on the chipset's APU and Avance Logic ALC650 AC'97 codec; 5.1 audio system supported, front audio outputs and SPDIF connectors provided
  • network controller based on the chipset; 10BaseT/100BaseTX supported.

Winbond W83637HF-AW Smart I/O controller provides support for a SmartCard Reader (the connector is integrated).

Non-unsoldered connectors: none.

System monitoring is supported by Winbond W83627HF-AW chip. What is controlled:

  • processor, AGP bus, memory  voltages, +3.3, +5 V;
  • speed of 3 fans;
  • temperatures of the processor (built-in sensor) and the board (built-in sensor).

There are 3 connectors for adjustable connection of fans (one of them is connected to a fan on the north bridge's heatsink).

Brief board's characteristics: memory slots - 3 DDR SDRAM; expansion slots - AGP/ 4 PCI/ ACR; I/O ports - 1 COM/ LPT/ 2 PS/2/ 6 USB 2.0; dimensions - 305x245 mm.

Setup of PCI bus -
Changeable scaler of AGP and PCI buses + AGP(PCIx2) = Auto, 50, 66-100 MHz in 1 and 3MHz steps
Manual assignment of interrupts -
Changeable FSB frequency + 100-266 MHz in 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6 MHz
Changeable CPU multiplier + x3-x24
Changeable core voltage + 1.1-2.0 V in 0.025V steps
Changeable memory voltage -
Changeable chipset voltage -
Changeable AGP bus voltage + Default, +0.1, +0.2 V

We used the BIOS of 27.01.2002 as the latest available version.

The developers focused on the features really useful in home rather than on peripherals support. That is why decent characteristics and good adjustable and overclocking settings can make it a good solution for an advanced home PC especially considering its quite low price.

Test results:
