Abit NV7m (NVIDIA nForce 420-D) Mainboard

The Abit's board of the "Fast Lane" series realizes capabilities of the nForce 420-D quite successfully. First of all, because such format is the most suitable for boards on chipsets with an integrated video adapter. Secondly, because it is the fastest among nForce 420-D based boards. The board comes in the OEM package.

Accessories:

  • Documentation: a user manual in English;
  • Cables: 1 ATA66/100 and 1 FDD;
  • Bracket with two USB ports;
  • Bracket for the rear panel;
  • CD with software including:
    • drivers;
    • Norton Antivirus 2002;
    • WinDVD 2000 v.2.1;
    • 3Deep;
    • BuzzSoft SoftPostCard;
    • BuzzSoft SoftCopier;
    • BuzzSoft SoftCardManager;
    • BuzzSoft SoftBulkEmail.

The layout is quite convenient, the only problem is that the components are placed too close to each other.

The 3-channel switching voltage regulator incorporates 9 capacitors of 2200 uF.

The following controllers are integrated: an audio one based on the chipset and Avance Logic AC'97 ALC201A codec with the SPDIF connector; a network one also based on the capabilities of the chipset.

Non-unsoldered connectors: none.

The system monitoring is supported by the Winbond W83627HF-AW chip. Processor voltage (+/-3.3, +/-5 and +/-12 V), speed of 3 fans and temperatures of the processor (a built-in sensor) and the board (a built-in sensor) can be controlled. There are 2 connectors for adjustable connection of fans and 2 for non-adjustable.

Brief characteristics of the board: memory slots - 2 DDR SDRAM; expansion slots - AGP/ 3 PCI; I/O ports - 1 COM/ LPT/ 2 PS/2/ 4 USB 1.1; dimensions - 245x235 mm.

Adjustment can be carried out with:

jumpers and switches Jumper to clear up the CMOS
BIOS based on v6.00PG from Award Setup of memory timings + CAS Latency
Setup of memory frequency + DDR200, DDR266
Setup of AGP bus +
Setup of PCI bus -
Changeable scaler of AGP and PCI buses -
Manual assignment of interrupts -
Changeable FSB frequency + 100 and 133 MHz
Changeable CPU multiplier -
Changeable core voltage -
Changeable memory voltage -
Changeable chipset voltage -
Changeable AGP bus voltage -

We used the latest available version of the BIOS - 6Q.

The board is not bad: with its rich set of functions it will be an ideal choice for an undemanding user in its office or home computer. It has the only drawback - a relatively high price.
