Nokia N8 Parts Are Just 4 Cents Cheaper Than Those of iPhone 4 16GB
Despite a serious difference in features and capabilities, Nokia N8 almost matches Apple iPhone 4 16GB in terms of bill of materials. According to iSupply, Nokia N8 parts are just 4 cents cheaper than those of iPhone 4 16GB.
According to analysts, the total BOM cost of Nokia N8 is $187.47, Samsung's touchscreen being the most expensive part ($39.25). The next most expensive components are the 16GB flash memory ($37.12), the camera ($31.08) and the chipset ($22). An iPhone 4 with the same flash memory capacity has the BOM cost of $187.51, the touchscreen ($28.5) and Samsung's flash memory ($27) being the most expensive parts.
As you know, BOM cost isn't the same as cost price. The cost price Nokia N8 is $187.47 + $9.5 = $196.97. You can also add the costs of advertising, shipping, software development, etc.
Anyway, these numbers are far from actual retail prices. For example, in the U.S., an unlocked Nokia N8 may cost $549, while an iPhone unlocked 4 16GB costs about $749. Although in Russia, for example, this difference can be much higher, because an iPhone 4 16GB officially retails at about US$1064.
