Sapphire Rolls Out New HD 5550 Graphics Cards
Sapphire Technology rolled out a number of graphics cards based on 40nm ATI Radeon HD 5550 GPUs with 320 stream processors and support for Microsoft DirectX 11 and ATI Stream.
Other specifications are 550MHz core clock rate, 1600 MHz effective memory clock rate, 512MB/1024MB of 128-bit VRAM.
Models that have the DisplayPort interface support the ATI Eyefinity technology (simultaneous output to three monitors). Other models feature DVI, HDMI, and VGA interfaces.
The novelties have the Unified Video Decoder (UVD) feature that offloads CPU when you watch movies, including HD content (VC-1, H.264). The said feature has been improved so you can decode two Full HD 1080p HD streams at once and watch an HD movie with the Windows Aero GUI enabled at the same time.
The new offerings support HDMI 1.3a with Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio and come bundled with ArcSoft TotalMedia Theatre 3, a media player that uses ATI Stream.
Thanks to low power consumption, these novelties are well-suited for value PCs with regular power supply units.
