PhysX Is Not NVIDIA's Exclusive Anymore
NGOHQ.com is well-known as a place to download drivers modified by enthusiasts.
This time they turned to NVIDIA CUDA SDK and PhysX SDK and produced a modified PhysX driver (previously available only for NVIDIA graphics cards) that enables GPU physics acceleration on AMD cards, Radeon HD 3870 in particular.
As you can see, this increased 3D Mark Vantage results from 3800 to 4262 points, primarily because GPU started helping CPU in the physics computation test.
Unfortunately, they don't have access to Radeon 4850 and 4870 samples at the moment, but we are sure these novelties can also support PhysX in tests and games.
Thus, it's another convincing proof of the fact that many hardware limitations of today are "political".
The download availability of the modified driver is expected in the near future.

Club 3D Introduces Its Own HD4800 Series
Dutch Club 3D introduced its own HD4800 series of graphics cards. For more stability, the company complements these cards with "intelligent" cooling systems that measure temperature to calculate the right fan speed and, thus, produce less noise when not running any 3D applications.
According to the press release, these modifications will be equipped with special ATI Radeon DVI-I to HDMI adapters for more flexibility when connecting PCs to monitors or home theaters for HD playback.
