SMART Delivers XceedCF Line of Industrial-Grade CompactFlash

SMART Modular Technologies announced today the release of its new XceedCF line of low-power high-performance CompactFlash products. The XceedCF products are designed for use in mobile and embedded computing, medical, automotive, and industrial applications. This new industrial-grade RoHS-compliant product line is an extension of SMART's popular Xceed Flash family, which already includes the high-performance XceedUltra and low-power XceedLite solid state drives.

Available in densities from 64MB to 16GB, the new XceedCF cards feature 47MB/s read/write performance combined with low power (60mA read/write = 0.198 W), SMART's industrial-grade XceedCF cards are particularly well suited for embedded applications, such as housing embedded code, embedded storage, and boot code. Additionally, the entire Xceed Flash product line supports self-monitoring analysis and reporting technology (S.M.A.R.T.), which is designed to reduce field failures and unscheduled service maintenance operations.

Qualified for rugged applications, the XceedCF products function across 0 to 70°C. As with all of SMART's industrial-grade Flash products, the XceedCF cards incorporate advanced static and dynamic wear-leveling algorithms for extending lifespan in the most demanding applications. SMART Flash products ensure 100% repeatability and reliable operation, yielding greater than 2 million program/erase cycles for most applications.

Transcend Unveils 2GB DDR2-800 FB-DIMM for Apple Mac Pro

Transcend Information released its latest memory innovation: a 2GB DDR2-800 Fully-Buffered DIMM (FB-DIMM) designed specifically for Apple's high-end Mac Pro system. The Mac Pro is based on the powerful Quad-Core Intel Xeon 5400 platform, and has a total of eight FB-DIMM memory slots, of which only two are used in standard configuration (2 x 1GB FB-DIMMs). Transcend's 2GB FB-DIMM gives Mac Pro users the option to fully populate all eight slots for a total of capacity of 16GB. The 2GB DDR2-800 FB-DIMM for Mac Pro is also equipped with an Advanced Memory Buffer (AMB) and Error Correction Code (ECC), which monitors the data that gets transferred in and out of memory and performs real-time correction of any errors found.

Transcend's 2GB DDR2-800 FB-DIMM module for Apple Mac Pro uses eight-layer PCBs that meet JEDEC standards. The 240-pin FB-DIMM is made of 18 70nm 128Mx8 DDR2 DRAM FBGA chips.

All Transcend memory modules come with a lifetime warranty and the support of a global service network.

Transcend Releases New Serial ATA Flash Module

Transcend Information introduced its newest industrial memory solution -– a high-speed Serial ATA Flash Module designed for use in thin clients, blade servers, ultra-compact sub-notebooks and space-limited industrial installations. It supports Ultra DMA Mode 4 with transfer speeds up to 1.5Gb/s

With robust, non-volatile flash memory, the SATA flash module is better suited for use in harsher, more demanding industrial environments such as industrial PCs, embedded systems, medical instruments, factory automation systems, network infrastructure and other industrial equipment. Besides being much smaller than conventional 2.5" and 3.5" SATA hard disk drives, the SATA flash module uses far less power and offers improved shock and vibration resistance, longer data retention durability and instant access speeds with zero spin-up or seek time. It also features built-in ECC (Error Correction Code) and an advanced wear leveling algorithm.

Transcend's SATA flash modules are now offered in capacities of 1GB and 2GB in both Vertical (male SATA data and power connectors) and Horizontal (female SATA connector with mini 2-pin power and mechanical write-protection switch) versions.

Apple Introduces New AirPort Express with 802.11n

Apple today updated its AirPort Express mobile base station with 802.11n to deliver up to five times the performance and twice the range of the previous model. Priced at $99, AirPort Express is claimed to be the world's smallest 802.11n-based mobile base station. It can be plugged directly into the wall for wireless Internet connectivity and USB printing at home or easily brought on the road for wireless freedom wherever there is an Internet connection. AirPort Express features AirTunes, which works seamlessly with iTunes to give users a simple and inexpensive way to wirelessly stream iTunes music from a PC or Mac to any room in the house.

AirPort Express features a single-piece, compact design weighing just 6.7 ounces, providing maximum portability. AirPort Express offers both PC and Mac users the ability to share a single DSL or cable broadband connection with up to 10 simultaneous users. Users can also share a printer wirelessly that is connected to the USB port. Apple's AirPort Utility software provides easy step-by-step instructions for setting up and configuring AirPort Express; and with its advanced security features, AirPort Express safeguards data on networked computers with support for Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA/WPA2), 128-bit WEP encryption and a built-in firewall. Apple now includes 802.11n as standard in its entire line of AirPort base stations and Mac notebooks as well as iMac, Apple TV and Time Capsule.

AirPort Express includes a built-in combination digital and analog audio connector allowing users to connect to a home stereo or powered speakers. iTunes automatically detects remote speakers and displays them in a simple pop-up list for the user to select. Once the remote speakers are selected, AirTunes wirelessly streams iTunes music from the computer to the AirPort Express base station. Multiple AirPort Express base stations can be set up around a home, each connected to a set of powered speakers for a whole-home music experience. AirPort Express can also extend the range of an existing AirPort Extreme wireless network.

AirPort Express is available immediately through the Apple Store (www.apple.com), Apple's retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers for a suggested retail price of $99 (US).
