Hynix Introduces Industry's First 1Gb GDDR5 DRAM AMD Unleashes ATI Radeon HD 3800 Series Hynix Introduces Industry's First 1Gb GDDR5 DRAM Hynix Semiconductor today introduced the industry's first 1 Gigabit GDDR5 Graphics DRAM. The industry's first 1Gb GDDR5 from Hynix is claimed to be the fastest and highest density graphics memory available. It operates at 5Gbps bandwidth and processes up to 20 Gigabytes of data per second with a 32-bit I/O, well-suited in applications with high definition video and cinematic and photo-realistic graphics content. A bandwidth of 20 Gigabytes per second offered by the Hynix 1Gb GDDR5 can process more than 20 hours of DVD quality video. ![]() The newly introduced GDDR5 is built using the company's 66nm process technology and designed to minimize power consumption. In addition to its small form factor and power saving characteristics, Hynix's GDDR5 features time delay adjustments, error correction and jitter control technology. The fifth generation graphics memory GDDR5 improves data processing speed by more than 2 times than that of GDDR3, the current mainstream graphics DRAM device. Hynix plans to start mass production of GDDR5 in the H1 2008 to meet the increasing demand for high performance graphics DRAM. Source: Hynix Semiconductor
AMD Unleashes ATI Radeon HD 3800 Series AMD today announced the introduction and immediate availability of the ATI Radeon HD 3800 Series of graphics processing units, which deliver Microsoft's DirectX 10.1 support, 55nm process technology and tri- and quad- multi-GPU support with ATI CrossFireX. The complete specs are here. At launch, the ATI Radeon HD 3800 series will support dual-GPU CrossFire with tri and quad-GPU support scheduled for January 2008. ![]() The ATI Radeon HD 3800 series will be introduced in two variants at launch, from US $179 MSRP, the ATI Radeon HD 3850 with 256MB of GDDR3 memory and from US $219 MSRP, the ATI Radeon HD 3870 with 512MB GDDR4 memory. ![]() This new series of graphics products also represent the first step in the launch of AMD's upcoming enthusiast platform codenamed “Spider.” ![]() In addition to 55nm process technology, AMD has also added its patented ATI PowerPlay technology to the ATI Radeon HD 3800 series to provide increased control over the graphics processor in multiple power states. With PowerPlay technology users can dynamically adjust clocks and voltages depending on their usage scenario, which allows for a cool and quiet user experience.
The ATI Radeon HD 3850 and ATI Radeon HD 3870 support the Unified Video Decoder (as an Add-in-Board option). ![]() The ATI Radeon HD 3800 series launches with support from the following AMD’s Add-in-Board (AIB) and Systems Integrators (SI) partners. AIB partners building boards based on the ATI Radeon HD 3800 series include Asus, Club 3D, Diamond Multimedia, Gigabyte, HIS, Info-Tek, MSI, Palit, Sapphire, Tul and Visiontek. Systems integrators launching ATI Radeon HD 3800 series include ABS, Alienware, AMAX, Canada Computers, CyberPower, Extreme PC Corporation, Falcon-Northwest, iBUYPOWER, Maingear, Systemax, Ultra Gaming and Velocity Micro.
