Intel Core Microarchitecture-Based Processor Line-Up Expands To Communications Solutions SiS Presents New Chipsets For Windows Vista Corsair Expands FB-DIMM Family With 2GB DDR2-667 FB-DIMMs Intel Core Microarchitecture-Based Processor Line-Up Expands To Communications Solutions Intel Corporation announced building blocks for communication servers that deliver enhanced performance, value and choice for telecommunications equipment manufacturers and computing tasks such as call control, mobile location services and subscriber billing. The Intel NetStructure MPCBL0050 Single Board Computer is the first AdvancedTCA (ATCA) blade server based on the Intel Core microarchitecture. Also unveiled were the new power-efficient Dual-Core Intel Xeon processor LV 5138 and LV 5128. These new products are well suited for compute-intensive and space-constrained environments such as telecommunications central offices and datacenters. The fourth product announced is the Intel Carrier Grade Server TIGW1U, powered by previously launched Dual-Core Intel Xeon processor LV 5148, which offers customers high performance per watt in a small ruggedized form factor. The Intel NetStructure MPCBL0050 blade server, powered by the new Dual-Core Intel Xeon processor LV 5138, delivers almost three times the performance per slot of the leading competitive blade server, which enables service providers to deliver new services with fewer blades. It runs Carrier Grade Linux operating system and offers performance improvements for compute-intensive and database-access applications, including IP Multimedia Subsystems (IMS), wireless control plane and IPTV. Additionally, it is designed to be the first blade server to comply with the proposed Communications Platforms Trade Association (CP-TA) 1.0 standard to improve industry interoperability. The Dual-Core Intel Xeon processor LV 5138 and 5128 combine the benefits of a dual-core processing with dual-processor capabilities, providing four high-performance cores on a single platform. The LV 5138 offers telecommunication customers robust thermal profiles and a low Thermal Design Power (TDP) for solutions that require compliance with ATCA form factor and NEBS Level-3 thermal specifications. The Intel NetStructure MPCBL0050 Single Board Computer will cost $5,169 and the Intel Carrier Grade Server TIGW1U starts at $1,550. Both products will be available in the first quarter of 2007. The Dual-Core Intel Xeon processor LV 5138 and LV 5128 will cost $617 and $412, respectively, per 1,000 units, and will begin shipping in the fourth quarter of this year. Source: Intel Corporation
SiS Presents New Chipsets For Windows Vista SiS unveiled its latest chipsets of the SiS671 series and the SiS771 chipsets ready for Windows Vista. The SiS671 series and the SiS771 chipsets are designed for Intel and AMD platforms respectively. SiS provides a full line of chipsets supporting Windows Vista. To process a large volume of data, Windows Vista basically requires hardware support 800MHz CPU, 512MB memory, and DirectX9-support graphics processor. If you’d like to have a more efficient and advanced operating performance, Windows Vista needs hardware equipments of a 1GHz CPU, 1GB memory, 128MB graphics memory, and Aero graphics interface.
SiS chipsets for Windows Vista can be adopted in desktop PCs and notebook PC, and are compatible with both Intel and AMD platforms. For desktop solution, SiS provides the SiS671, the SiS671FX, and the SiS671DX for Intel platform. The SiS771 chipset, on the other hand, is for AMD platform. As for mobile solution, the SiSM771 chipset is company's best choice for AMD platform. All of the SiS’s Windows Vista ready chipsets, except SiS671DX, integrates Mirage 3 graphics engine to support DX9, which provides presence of 3D image and high-definition video playback. The SiS671DX high-end discrete chipset, on the other hand, is able to meet gamer’s requirement of flexibly upgrading the system by installing an add-on graphics card. Compared to Windows XP operating system, Windows Vista is more efficient on power management. SiS Mirage 3 graphics engine has been integrated into all of the SiS’s Windows Vista ready chipsets. It adopts “Smart Dynamic Clock Gating” technology to flexibly adjust the clock frequency in the 2D and 3D conditions. Less graphics workload results in lower clock frequency, so that which is able to reduce much more power-consumption. Source: SiS
Corsair Expands FB-DIMM Family With 2GB DDR2-667 FB-DIMMs Corsair expanded its Fully Buffered DIMM (FB-DIMM) family of products to include new high density DDR2-667 MHz speeds to support the latest dual-core Intel Xeon based platforms. Every Corsair FB-DIMM memory module is tested on Intel Xeon based server motherboards to guarantee compatibility and is fully compliant with the JEDEC standards. The FB-DIMM memory architecture allows two channels to read and write in parallel by the memory controller, hence provide simpler interconnects. The design also provides more memory bandwidth with up to six memory channels and eight dual-rank memory modules per channel. Corsair FB-DIMM features:
