Plextor Boosts DVD+R DL Recording Speed To 10x

Plextor LLC announced the PX-755UF DVD±R/RW CD-R/RW burner - the first Plextor external drive to feature 10X DVD+R Double-Layer recording speed.

The PX-755UF drive delivers DVD recording speeds of 16X DVD±R on single-layer media, 10X DVD+R on Double-Layer media, and 6X DVD-R on Dual-Layer media. The drive also supports 8X DVD+RW, 6X DVD-RW, 16X max DVD-ROM, 48X CD-R, 24X CD-RW, and 48X max CD-ROM.

The external PX-755UF features a dual interface with Hi-Speed USB and IEEE 1394 (FireWire). Burst data transfer rates of 480 Mbps (USB) or 400 Mbps (FireWire) allow a user to burn a 4.7 GB DVD+R disc in approximately six minutes. The PX-755UF drive features a 2 MB buffer and Buffer Underrun Proof Technology to prevent buffer underrun errors and allow multi-tasking.

Plextor's bundled software package offers Roxio Easy Media Creator 8 software suite for burning video, music, photos, and data to DVD or CD. The PX-755UF also includes PlexTools Professional software, a package of six features, including AUTOSTRATEGY, PoweRec, PlexEraser, SecureRecording, GigaRec, Q-Check, VariRec, and SilentMode.

The external Plextor PX-755UF DVD±R/RW CD-R/RW drive will ship to distributors in North and South America in mid-November 2006 with an MSRP of $159.00.

DALSA Unveils New Piranha Color Line Scan Camera

DALSA Corporation today announced the expansion of its Piranha family of line scan cameras to include a Piranha Color model. The Piranha Color will be showcased during VISION 2006, November 7-9, at DALSA’s stand #4.0 616.

DALSA’s Piranha cameras are designed for high-speed and high-throughput applications, such as patterned color web (print) inspection, color document scanning, food inspection and printed circuit board inspection.

The Piranha Color features a proprietary tri-linear sensor technology, and is available in 2k or 4k resolutions with line rates up to 33 kHz.

The tri-linear sensor technology uses three sensors on one die - one for each color, red, green, and blue, and achieves three-pixel center-to-center line spacing which is claimed to result in excellent color performance. Minimal line spacing is called to provide a significant advantage and cost-savings when considered against more expensive prism-based color cameras and their required lensing.

Other features include built-in flat field correction and industry-standard Camera Link interface.

The Piranha Color will be available in Q1 2007.

BenQ Introduces DW1800 & DW1680 DVD Re-Writer

BenQ today expanded its optical storage lineup with the DW1800 and DW1680 DVD re-writers. The DW1800 and DW1680 offer 18x and 16x writing speed respectively and both feature BenQ's exclusive SolidBurn technology and QSuite application package. The DW1800 features 2MB buffer; offers DVD-RAM writing speed of up to 12x and supports both DVD+R and DVD-R Double Layer recording at 8x.

The BenQ SolidBurn technology uses a smart self-learning writing strategy that allows drives to burn unknown discs with solid burn quality.

The QSuite application package provides easy settings to activate or deactivate the SolidBurn technology as well as other convenient functions such as Book type Management function for a better DVD compatibility, QScan function for an optimized over-speed burning quality and Test Write function for writing simulation. Furthermore, the DW1800 features a module-based design which means additional new functions can be downloaded from the Internet and be added to the QSuite application package.
