Infineon unveils the thinnest 8GB memory module
The German company unveiled the new DDR2-400 registered memory modules of 8GB capacity intended for high-performance servers of an undisclosed customer. The novelties are based on dual 2Gbit (2 x 1Gbit) chips. The higher density of packaging allowed to reduce the thickness down to 0.1mm, so each module is only 4.1mm thick (at 55mm height). This is 40% thinner than the previous record.
The company also informed that its DDR2-800 modules of 256MB and 512MB capacities were tested by ASUS on P5WD2 motherboards and recognized as the best memory for this board. These Infineon´s modules are the only capable of working at such frequencies without any cooling, even passive heatsinks.
