ASUS P5GPL – a i915PL firstling
Late in 2004 Intel updated its desktop chipset series with Intel 915PL and Intel 915GL solutions, which actually were the good old Intel 915P and Intel 915GV stripped of DDR2 SDRAM support. According to information we had, DDR SDRAM controller of i915PL was able to address just 2GB of RAM (vs. 4GB of i915P) and could interact with only two DIMM modules (one per channel):
However, the latter turned out to be not true. These days P5GPL motherboard from ASUSTeK hit stores in Japan and we could see it equipped with all 4 memory sockets:

i915PL is by 1/3 ($10) cheaper than i915P. The current price of P5GPL makes $130 (consider the traditional Japanese overpricing).
As for the features, they are standard: PCI-E x16 slot on i915PL coupled with ICH6 without Intel Matrix Storage Technology (the advanced RAID 0/1), but with 3 x PCI-E x1 / 3 x PCI, 4 x SATA, 1 x PATA, 8 x USB 2.0, Marvell 88E8053 Gbit LAN connected via PCI-E and 8ch Realtek ALC880 audio codec. The back panel features 4 x USB, RJ45, COM, analog and coaxial digital audio outputs. Heatsinks on CPU voltage MOSFET is also a good tradition.
