Intel changes stepping of 800 MHz FSB Xeon

Intel changed stepping of Xeon processors with 800 MHz FSB — from D-0 to E-0. Changes are made to 2.8/3.0/3.3/3.4/3.6 GHz models and imply the following:

  • New 0F41h CPUID (instead of older 0F34h)
  • Energy consumption and performance optimizations:
    • Enabled NB (Execution Disable) bit
    • Thermomonitor 2(TM2) thermal sensor
    • Extended Halt state

E-0 stepping is pin-compatible with D-0. No BIOS or other updates are required.
