NEC ND-6500A: a slim 9-in-1 DVD±R recorder NEC unveiled its first ultra compact DVD recorder, ND-6500A, that supports 8x DVD±R and 4x DVD±RW speeds. The featured innovation is Active Optimized Power Control (Active OPC) technology that "dynamically monitors writing power and reflection of the media in use, calculating the optimum laser power and adjusting it in real-time." 8x DVD ±SlimWriter 8.5GB (ND-6500A) features:
ABIT announces AS8 motherboard on 865PE chipset for LGA775 processors ABIT officially released a new Intel 865PE based motherboard, AS8. It supports Pentium 4 LGA775 processors and has a dual-channel DDR400, SATA RAID, IEEE1394 controllers.
AS8 dedicates many features to CPU, memory, chipset overclocking and utilizes OTES AeroFlow air circulation technology. µGuru now has Autodrive feature that dynamically adjusts performance depending on user needs. Besides, AS8 (as well as recently announced AG8 and AA8-DuraMAX) features Overclocking Strips (see below).
Advanced Media, a daughter company of RITEK, launched the production of dual-layer DVD±R media (8.5GB; 4 hours of DVD video, 16 hours of VHS video, 120 hours of MP3). The new media is compatible with existing DVD players, DVD-ROM drives and the new DVD±R DL products, and will go on sale in mid-July.
According to the press release, new discs are tested and certified by DVD+R Alliance that gathers a number of vendors of recording devices and software. The new single-side, dual-layer DVD±R drive will be offered under RIDATA brand for the yet undisclosed price. We, of course, would like to know the exace numbers, because similar Verbatim media will go on sale in Europe for €15 each.
