Infineon samples 2GB planar registered DDR2 SDRAM DIMM Infineon Technologies started sampling 2GB DDR2 planer Registered DIMM modules based on 512Mbit DDR2 SDRAM 60-pin FBGA chips. Before modules of over 1GB capacities have utilized stacked components technology, but Infineon now offers modules with single-crystal components being 4.1mm thick.
According to experts, 2GB novelties should become the most preferable for server builders. iSuppli informs that middle-range and high-end server markets will grow from 800,000 units in 2003 to about 1 million in 2006 at about 9% yearly growth rate. 2GB Registered DIMM Infineon modules feature 36 x single-crystal 512Mbit DDR2 SDRAM components that meet JEDEC requirements, i.e. provide 400 and 533 Mbps throughput. PC2-3200 and PC2-4300 modules are organized as 256 Mbit x 72 (2 Rank x4) and are available for about $700 and $910, respectively. According to the press release, the volume production is scheduled to H2 2004. Considering the novelties, Infineon´s DDR2 SDRAM DIMM family includes 256MB, 512MB, 1GB, 2GB (all planar) and 4GB (stacked) modules.
