Many of you 3D graphics enthusiasts are looking forward to see the test results of ATI Radeon 9800XT cards announced yesterday. You won´t have to wait long, as our Video section will soon be offering you a new review.

And today let´s intrduce the first photos of ATI Radeon 9800XT 256 MB that has just arrived to our test lab:






ATI RADEON 9800XT graphics: PowerColor catches up

ATI had just announced new 9600XT and 9800XT GPUs, and PowerColor, following ASUS, already introduced its RADEON 9800XT card with 256Mb or 256-bit memory — XR98T-C3. Of course, a RADEON 9600XT solution — XR96T-C3 – with 128Mb of 128-bit memory was announced as well. As we mentioned yesterday, 9800XT clock speed is 412MHz and it´s made by TSMC using 0.15µm process.

Both cards have D-Sub, S-Video and DVI-I interfaces.

Hercules DJ Console: original external 5.1 soundcard/mixer

Hercules, popular in the soundcard market, announced an external DJ Console sound system that combines a 5.1-channel USB soundcard and real-time mixer features.


According to the manufacturer, Hercules DJ Console features:

  • 2 vinyl-style jog wheels for spinning and scratching, with finger grips for rapid, accurate song searching or speed adjustment,
  • 1 crossfader for seamless mixing between the two decks,
  • 6 ergonomic potentiometers and bass/medium/treble controls for creative remixing on the fly,
  • 2 rotary encoders and 2 sliders for tweaking volume or changing the speed of music (pitch/master tempo) in real time,
  • 28 buttons to play/pause songs, speed music up or down for accurate mixing (pitch bend), add effects, cue points (song positions) and loops on the fly, skip through tracks backwards or forwards, rewind or fast forward and more,
  • A soft rubber ministick provides mouse emulation or allows for special DJ FX control.

The device bases on a 5.1-channel soundcard with digital, analog and MIDI interfaces. DJ Console is bundled with corresponding software. In retail DJ Console is expected in October with estimated price of 250 euros.





EPoX unveils EP-4PDA5+ motherboard on i865PE

EPoX unveiled the EP-4PDA5+ motherboard on i865PE chipset that supports RAID 0+1 (Silicon Image 3114 Taurus) for up to 4 SATA drives.

Brief specs:

  • 5 x PCI slots
  • 1 x AGP 8x slot (1.5V)
  • RealTek RTL8110S-32 LAN
  • 4 x SATA, RAID 0, 1, 10 & 5
  • PATA RAID (ITE IT8212), RAID 0, 1 & 0+1
  • 8-channel Realtek ALC 850
  • Up to 6 x USB 2.0 ports
  • Dual-channel DDR400 supported

Tyan Tiger K8W: a new dual-way Opteron motherboard

Tyan introduced a new Tiger K8W (S2875) motherboard for AMD Opteron processors positioned for entry-level workstations.



Tiger K8W can host two Opteron processors, supports Serial ATA RAID, FireWire, AGP 8X/4X, Gigabit Ethernet, 8 x USB ports and 1 x FireWire (IEEE 1394) port.

Tiger K8WS will be manufactured in two variants: dual-way S2875 and single-way S2875S.

KNC17GCB — a middle-range notebook from iiyama

Japanese iiyama announced its new notebook that will go on sale early November. Estimated retail price for the KNC17GCB is about $1035. The model has 15" screen with 1024 x 768 resolution.


It is 1.70 GHz-based model (SiS 645/961 chipset) with 128 MB RAM (PC2100, 1 GB max), 40 GB HDD, DVD/CD-RW-drive, Ethernet-controller, V.90 supporting modem. The graphic core used is GeForce4 440 Go (64 MB).

As for the ports and interfaces set, it is rather standard: PC Card Type II, three USB 2.0, one 4-pin IEEE 1394, 15 pin D-Sub, LPT/COM etc. Accumulator used in the models gives up to 2 hours of continuous work. The dimensions of the KNC17GCB are 324 x 267 x 42 mm, its weight is about 2.9 kg.


Sony PEG-TJ25 — Motorola i.MXL based PDA

As it was expected, Sony announced its new CLIE series PDA, PEG-TJ25 that will go on sale on October 25. As the sources say, there will be 6 versions of the PDA that will differ in case color: white, silver, black, blue, red, and ´flamingo pink´.
