Athlon XP-M 2800+, LV Athlon XP-M 2000+ and 1900+: three new AMD Barton-based mobile processors

Today AMD announced three new mobile processors. Made at Fab30 in Dresden using 0.13µm process, they have 512Kb L2 cache (i.e. are based on Barton).

The most powerful AMD Athlon XP-M 2800+ features 2.13GHz actual clock rate and is designed for fully-fledged "desktop" notebooks. Two other chips are low voltage solutions for lighter models. LV (Low-Voltage) AMD Athlon XP-M 2000+ operates at 1.53GHz; LV (Low-Voltage) AMD Athlon XP-M 1900+ – at 1.47GHz.

According to the press release, shipments of all three have already been launched. In over 1,000-unit quantities, LV AMD Athlon XP-M 2000+ and 1900+ cost $134 and $123, respectively, with AMD Athlon XP-M 2800+ priced at $230.

Fujitsu PC was the first to announce the intention to use AMD Athlon XP-M 1900+ and 2000+ in its LifeBook S2000. In its turn, British Time Computers decided to build its Time Traveller "AR" models on AMD Athlon XP-M 2800+.

SanDisk obtained the license for making and selling all kinds of Memory Stick

SanDisk and Sony signed the cross-licensing agreement to extend their partnership. Earlier, in September 2001 they signed the agreement regarding Memory Stick distribution. Then in January 2003, the companies jointly developed Memory Stick PRO. Currently SanDisk owns production rights for this memory type.

The new agreement enables SanDisk to make and sell Memory Stick, Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick with Memory Select (switchable banks) under the proprietary trademark, so the company is going to launch own Memory Stick production this quarter.

According to International Data Corporation, the Memory Stick market segment will make 25% of removable media.

PC Toys CaseMaxx 610 (green) case review @ MonkeyReview

"I like this case in the sense that it’s a good starting block for building your own rig, and also has the bells and whistles that more experienced enthusiasts will appreciate. Beginners will find lots of use for the internal space, and the case is simple enough to customise on their own and dress it up for success. All-in-all though, this is a great case that is worth the look if you’re looking for a case that provides solid value for the dollar, not to mention the subtle effect of lime-green Eye-candy."

HWZ Sneak Peek : Sony VAIO PCG-TR1 (Centrino)

"The VAIO PCG-TR1 is arguably one of the best looking sub-notebook around. We liked it, and we could probably say we love it too. But as we didn´t run our usual suite of benchmarks, we´ll leave our final judgement until we get hold of a proper review unit. In the meantime, we did take a quick look at the PCG-TR1´s visual and audio outputs. Although both the screen and speakers are only pre-production builts and we deemed it unfair to the notebook to actually put it through our usual visual/audio tests, we were already pretty impressed by what we have seen and heard so far."

Intel certified Hynix's 512Mbit DDR400 chips along with modules

Hynix Semiconductor Inc. informed that Intel had certified its 512Mbit DDR400 chips along with modules on them. If you remember, Hynix´s 256Mbit DDR400 chips were certified by Intel in February. Hynix forecasts the growing demand for DDR400 until the year-end, as this architecture is supported by popular Springdale and Canterwood.

According to Hynix´s marketing vice president, Farhad Tabrizi, the company will control over 35% of the DDR400 market by the end of 2003. He stated that Hynix makes additional efforts towards expanding DDR400 production facilities to increase the share of these from 60% to 90% of total output. Currently the company focuses on DDR400, DDR2 and GDDR2/3 most.

Comta PNW-1 computer desk review @ Designtechnica

"The Comta PNW-I L-shaped desk is a pleasant surprise in a market dominated by the likes of Office Depot and Staples. The construction of the PNW-1 is solid and the design is definitely simplistic and modernistic. We like the fact that there are options available when it comes to the color of the wood and length of the table top. The PNW-1 is available through desk4computers.com for $399 including free shipping; a steal if you ask us."
