Intel to announce new 2.5/2.6GHz Celerons and update CPU/chipset prices

According to The Inquirer, closer to the end of the next month, on June 25, Intel plans to announce new desktop Socket 478 Celerons with 2.5GHz and 2.6GHz clock speeds and $89, $102 wholesale prices. However, before that, on May 25, we should expect a price cut for 2.4, 2.3, 2.2 and 2.1 GHz CPUs down to $85, $79, $74, $74, respectively.

Besides, on May 21 some Intel Springdale chipsets should get cheaper as well. i865G, i865PE and i865P models together with ICH5R (RAID) Southbridge will cost $44, $39 and $36, respectively (w/o RAID (ICH5) these will cost $41, $36, $33).

The next chipset price cut is expected in late June, but the company might leave i875P prices ($53 with RAID and $50 without) as is.

ASUS DRW-0402P @ Legion Hardware

"ASUS have based their DVD burner on the DVD-RW format meaning there is no Lossless Linking technology supported on their drive. For general use I believe the DVD-RW format is faster and better than the DVD+RW format however, this isn’t the case for video use. The ASUS DRW-0402P is a multifunction ATAPI DVD-R/RW Drive supporting 4X DVD-R/ 2X DVD-RW/ 12X DVD-ROM and 16X CD-R/ 8X CD-RW/ 32X CD-ROM."

Aero 7 review @ Overclocker Warehouse

"The Aero 7 is not Cooler Master´s first crack at a cool n´ quiet CPU cooler. Several other attempts, including the recently reviewed XDream SE cooler, have all fairly successfully achieved their mandate, with usually only a few minor and petty flaws holding them back from excellence. The main area that these coolers lagged in was the actual cooling — sure, they looked cool and ran at barely noticeable volumes, but none of the coolers really cut it to provide the cooling necessary for speed-hungry overclockers."

Apple Computer added new models to its eMac series. These feature 17" CRT monitors, up to 1 GHz PowerPC G4 CPUs, 4x SuperDrive optical drives, ATI Radeon 7500 graphics, up to 80Gb HDDs, 56kbps modems, 10/100 LANs, USB1.1 and FireWire ports, AirPort Extreme wireless interface (IEEE802.11g; up to 54Mbps). Besides, the high-end model supports Mac OS X only (as it’s the only supporting SuperDrive and iDVD 3), but the low- and mid-end models work under both Mac OS 9, and Mac OS X (Mac OS X 10.2.5).

  • 80Gb HDD
  • 32Mb ATI Radeon 7500 (instead of 32Mb NVIDIA GeForce2 MX)

Zalman CNPS7000Cu vs. Thermalright SLK-900U

"Hmmm..."the end of aircooling"... sounds like a bold statement. A lot of tech sites like making bold statements in order to get attention. Perfects scores of "10 out of 10" and "100%" seem to have lost their value. How can a product be perfect? One that is designed by imperfect humans? We´re now approaching heatsinks that weigh the better part of a kilo."

KT400A-based Soltek SL-KT400A in our lab

We obtained the first Soltek SL-KT400A ATX motherboard on recently announced KT400A. It bases on KT400A + VT8235 bridges; supports AMD K7 processors with 266/333MHz FSB; features AGP 8x slot, 6 PCI slots, 3 DIMM sockets for up to 3Gb of DDR SDRAM, inc. DDR400, 6 USB ports, 5.1-ch. audio (VIA VT1616). Besides, SL-KT400A-L also features VIA VT6103 LAN.

All of the above confirms that KT400A boards arrived for retail in May as promised. Whether there’s sense of buying these today or waiting for the next KT600 with 400MHz FSB support is up to you. But no one knows when KT600 gets to retail, and SL-KT400A already costs $85 in Moscow, Russia.

Samsung SyncMaster 241MP TFT LCD Monitor/TV @ MonkeyReview

"The Syncmaster 241MP is the newest addition to Samsungs strong and versatile MP series. The target audience for this particular unit would most likely be someone such as myself who spends long days in front of their computers and would either like to also enjoy video/TV at the same time, or for the audience who would also like to use their TV as a monitor, of course Its also ideal for those just looking for a great quality large TFT LCD monitor/TV."
