EPoX announces newer NVIDIA nForce2-based roadmap

EPoX announced the near-future roadmap for its NVIDIA nForce2 solutions, which are to differ from the previous ones by Serial ATA support:
  • EP-8RDA3+ — nForce2 SPP ATX board; AGP 8x, 3 IEEE 1394a ports, 5.1-ch. CMedia 9739a codec, USB 2.0, LAN features, Silicon Image 3112a Serial ATA, overclocking capabilities.
  • EP-8RGA3+ — EP-8RDA3+ featurs plus nForce 2 IGP with its integrated graphics core; AGP slot for external cards.

HWZ review: MSI 655 Max (SiS 655) Mainboard

"If you are looking for a board with a good set of on-board features, then the MSI 655 Max will not disappoint you. With all the standard high-end features like Serial ATA, Gigabit LAN and FireWire, there´s simply no reason why you shouldn´t consider this board. Packing a lot of devices and options in a relatively small PCB area, MSI once again showed us their strength and expertise in PCB design and layout."

Intel cancels production of some ULV PIII-M and Mobile Celeron chips

In of the latest Product Change Notification posted Intel informed on cancelling the production and sales of 866MHz and 850MHz ULV Mobile Pentium III-M as well as 733MHz and 700MHz Mobile Celeron. In mid-May it will stop receiving orders for these, the latest Pentium III-M chips shipping before September 2004, Mobile Celeron – before March 2004.

The reason is traditional: low demand and newer chips available.

EX-VISION 400TV and EX-VISION 700TV: new TV-tuners

ELSA updated the line of ELSA EX-VISION TV-tuners with ELSA EX-VISION 700TV and low-profile ELSA EX-VISION 400TV (designed for slim PC cases with features equal to 700TV), shipments starting in early April in Japan.

Devices feature Toshiba audio chips, Philips SAA7130 AV encoder (MPEG-1/2), NEC anti-jitter synch chips, Hitachi tuner chips.

700TV connectors include antenna, S-Video, composite, line-in/out (4-pin soundcard connector), mini-jack, stereo.

Card dimensions are 119.9x96.5 mm w/o bracket. Recommended system requirements are: Pentium III 500, 32-bit PCI, Windows 98 SE/ME/2000/XP.

The second model – ELSA EX-VISION 400TV – is smaller (119.9x64.45 mm) featuring connectors for antenna, S-Video, stereo line-in, line-out (4-pin soundcard connector).

Samsung SyncMaster 172w (Wide Screen) TFT LCD @ MonkeyReview

"For its price and intended audience, I am confidant that the Samsung 172w will be well received. As I said, if you plan on using your PC for both work and play and don’t mind working in the 16:9 aspect ratio, this monitor looks great, performs well, offers some impressive specs and won´t break the bank. I am happy to see the wall mount is included. I was also quiet pleased to see the DVI capabilities. My only real complaint are the speakers, which in most cases will be bypassed just the same."

Nanya to produce 200 million 256Mbit chips in 2003

Nanya Technology informed that in March 256Mbit chip shipments would make 16 million units, this value reaching about 200 million DRAM chips total in 2003 (46% more vs. 2002).

Describing the market situation, company’s CEO said the prices would reach the lowest limit by the end of Q1, while Q2 was expected to bring high sales volumes vs. the previous quarter. This is strange as Q2 is traditionally considered unsuccessful from this point.

DRAM makers profitability depends much on chip cost price. Currently a chip costs Nanya $4 against $5 or $6 that other local makers spend.

So, perhaps, this low price and growing DDR400 shipments will let Nanya Technology earn more money than in Q1.

Albatron releases KM18G Pro mobo on nForce2

Albatron updated its AMD K7 line with KM18G Pro motherboard on NVIDIA nForce2.

KM18G Pro features NVIDIA nForce2 IGP/MCP Micro-ATX bundle; supports Socket A Athlon XP (inc. Barton-based) with 200/266/333MHz FSB, dual-channel DDR400/333 (up to 2Gb dual-channel, up to 3Gb single-channel); has AGP 8x, 3 PCI slots, 6 USB 2.0 ports, 6-ch. AC97 codec, SPDIF.

FlyGrabber-CF: capturing video with a Pocket PC

Japanese CF Compay (Customer First Company) introduced a rather unusual CF Type I device — FlyGrabber-CF, the first (as far as I remember) Pocket PC AV interface for digitizing S-Video output in real time.

FlyGrabber-CF works with Microsoft Pocket PC 2000/2002 devices. The digitizing technology is licensed from Taiwanese Animation Techonologies. And the module itself enables Motion JPEG video capture at 320x240, 180x136 or 160x120 at up to 30fps. Besides, it allows JPEG, BMP or GIF still image capture at 720x576, 720x480, 640x480, or 320x240.

FlyGrabber-CF is already available in Japan, its MSRP is $165.

The edited log of Bjorn3D´s chat with NVIDIA´s Bill Rehbock

"Mr. Rehbock discussed how NVIDIA works with developers, what developers are saying about GeForce FX and their "The Way It´s Meant to Be Played" program. And, of course, our 3D and gaming questions." The complete edited log of Bjorn3D´s chat with Bill Rehbock, Director of Developer Relations for NVIDIA, is available at Bjorn3D.

Corsair HydroCool200 water cooling system

Corsair Memory announced the development of the new water cooling solutions family. The first product developed was HydroCool200, introducing the patented cooling technology from Delphi Thermal Systems. The system features a copper processor heat-sink with porous coolant contact, P4 or K7 socket, water cooling and programmable control module that features an LCD display indicating coolant temperature.

Main benefits include operation noiseless, automatic switching to "Turbo" if needed, limit adjustments. The chart below compares Corsair HydroCool200 with closest rivals.

Forces alignment in the AMD K7 chipset market

Leaving aside new processor platforms, the good old AMD K7 Socket 462 is still in the ranks. And VIA Technologies and NVIDIA are still the major players in the market of AMD K7 chipsets, but VIA offers wider solution range. To consolidate in the high-end segment it released KT400A with 333MHz FSB and DDR400 support. Besides, in may the company is to announce KT600 supporting DDR400 and 400MHz FSB. Only time will tell if VIA is able to press NVIDIA with its nForce2.

We introduce you the forces alignment summary for the AMD K7 chipset market:
