SiS55x LV: New low-power systems-on-chips
Today SiS officially announced two new SoCs (System-on-Chip) of SiS55x LV family for low-power tablets as well as E-books, Web-pads and Pocket PCs. In SiS550 LV and SiS552 LV markings LV stands for lower voltage that provides up to 55% energy saving along with 25% performance boost comparing to the previous generation.
SiS55x LV is chip that combines 250MHz x86/MMX core, North/Southbridge, GUI hardware engine, DRAM controller, Ultra-AGP VGA, DFP/TV out, soft-modem, CIR, TFT/DSTN, PCI/USB/IDE 5.1 audio, LPT, Flash ROM, etc.

Unlike SiS550 LV, SiS552LV has more audio/video features, including smartcard reader controller, Sony Memory Stick slot controller, DVD encoder, video-in, etc. All of these make it a good platform for smart displays, digital VCRs, home theaters, etc.

Both chips operate under Linux and Windows and are naturally pin-compatible with SiS55x generation.
NVIDIA officially announces GeForce FX 5600 and 5200
As scheduled, NVIDIA posted the press release about additions to the GeForce FX family. The company announced GeForce FX 5600 and 5200 DirectX 9.0 GPUs for the performance and mainstream markets.

Now, including GeForce FX 5800, GeForce FX serie consists of three GPUs featuring CineFX, pixel and vertex shaders, NVIDIA Unified Driver Architecture. Besides, each novelty features 4 pixel pipelines.

0.13-micron GeForce FX 5600 (NV31) features 88 million transistors, supports DDR-II and all GeForce FX features, including Intellisample 2.0. GeForce FX 5600 claimed to be overclockable up to 400MHz and even higher. Initially, these solutions will be produced with 128Mb 128-bit DDR and 325/275MHz GPU/memory clock. Their price will bwe about $190.

GeForce FX 5200 (NV34) is NVIDIA’s first mainstream DirectX 9.0 GPU. Such cards are expected to cost about $100. It is made using 0.15-micron process technology and features 81 million transistors, only DDR-I memory, 250/166MHz GPU/memory clock rate, 128Mb 128-bit DDR.

GeForce FX 5200 Ultra variant will operate at 250/200MHz, feature 128Mb 128-bit DDR and cost $140. FX 5200’s overclockable clock limit is claimed up to 250MHz.
Besides, all today’s chips are fully compatible, so we might see many non-reference solutions as well.

In volumes GeForce FX products are expected in April from ABIT Computer, AOpen, ASUSTeK, BFG Technologies, Chaintech, Creative, eVGA.com, Gainward, Leadtek Research, MSI, Palit Microsystems, Pine XFX and PNY Technologies.
