They will enable Huawei to enrich its product line with scalable broadband solutions, using relatively inexpensive Ethernet for video transmission services, video-on-demand, in particular, interactive TV, online games, Internet access, and voice services. Huawei and Infineon have recently opened a joint R&D lab.Infineon´s QAM chipset supports asymmetrically optimized Plan 998, symmetrically optimized Plan 997 and other dual- triple- and quadruple-band VDSL standards, providing more comfortable communication network design. At that PoVDSL provides Ethernet over VDSL on up to 1.5 km distances.
AP1700: new Dual Xeon server from ASUS ASUSTek Computer announced the release of AP1700, new dual-processor server. It can be used as a standalone system or as a 5U rack-mount.![]() ASUS AP1700 brief specifications:
New industrial PCs from Nexcom Nexcom, industrial PC maker, reported the release of a new SBC (single board computer) family on Pentium 4.
Taiwan: prices 16È CD-RW dropped below $40 The market has been full of high-speed CD-RW drives recently, and 48È surprises nobody. Naturally, 16È drives do not intereset many buyers now, but stocks are large. Due to this, 16È CD-RW retail prices dropped below $38 in Taiwan. At that $38 price is set for 16È drives from such brands, as Philips, Ricoh and Ritek (Ridata), other drives cost even less. So, the price of 16È CD-RW is just 10 bucks higher than the price of 52È CD-ROM.
Philips Pronto Lite: PDA as a remote control? ![]() Pronto Lite includes several menus for TVs, VCRs, cable and satellite receivers CD-players and even tape recorders. Besides, one can program functions, supported by a remote control, supplied with one of mentioned devices. The software is available for downlowad from Philips website. The demo version offers 15-day trial period. The software costs $20.
![]() InfoSync, referring to USA FCC, reported that S55 will support GSM 900, 1800 and 1900 MHz; GPRS, WAP, J2ME, MMS, Bluetooth and infra-red port. S55 will have a 256-color 101x64 display. By the way, you can see that the phone is marked L55 on the photo, presented by Siemens to FCC, however both Xonio, and InfoSync claim it´s S55.
The handset will have 400KB memory and an explorer similar to SL45i. Due to this, some believe that Siemens might release a digital camera module for the handset. A built-in email client will support POP3 and fully (for this phone) enable MMS for .MID, .BMP files, .VMO (voice messages), .SMI (short messages, SMS), .VCF (business cards) and .VCS (calendar notes). Besides, the email client will support Microsoft Outlook sync with included XTNDConnect software. First models will utilize standard Siemens 650 mAh Li-Ion batteries. Operation time wasn´t disclosed, but I can guess it´ll be shorter than, for example, that of SL45i due to color display and more featured. Phone dimensions are 109x46x23 mm, weight 97 g.
Intel enters the market of communication control chips: IXC1100 and 1.6 GHz Low Voltage Xeon It seems that communication control chip makers IBM, MIPS, PMC-Sierra, etc. will have to compete with another rival henceforward, as Intel announced its products for this market. In the nearest future the company plans to present IXC1100 processor, based on Xscale architecture. In addition, the company begins the deliveries of low-voltage Xeon chips, designed especially for communications devices.IXC1100 is a system-on-a-chip (SoC) product. It will be shipped in three variants: with 266 MHz, 400 MHz and 533 MHz clock rates. IXC1100 will be used for the development of multi-featured switches, voice-over-IP systems, wireless products. Unlike most comm chips, that utilize multiple RISC cores, new Intel chip bases on the uniprocessor architecture and supports the standard V5TE instruction set from ARM Ltd. IXC1100 combines several modules, including memory controller, PCI bus, timers, 10/100 Mbps Ethernet. Low Voltage (LV) 1.6 MHz Intel Xeon supports HyperThreading, features 30 W dissipated power and is designed for E7500 boards. Single and dual-processor systems, based on LV Xeon, will be used in programmable network devices, high memory and I/O throughput. IXC1100 samples are already available, volume shipments will start in the beginning of Q4 2002. In 1000 unit consignments 266 MHz will cost $35, 533 MHz model $55. 1.6 GHz Low Voltage Intel Xeon will cost $355 in similar conditions.
CeBIT Asia 2002: mobiles and comminucators Due to the considerable increase of Chinese cellular network subscribers, the local market became attractive for mobile handset makers, that presented lots of their products at CeBIT Asia 2002.The show brought numerous communication devices for Pocket PC Phone Edition and Palm OS.
As you know, phone color displays and digital cameras are becoming more popular today. They are well presented as well.
And of course, there are many new cellular phones of different design and size.
CeBIT Asia 2002: new motherboards from Albatron Yesterday CeBIT Asia 2002 began in Shanghai, China to take place 2-5 September. Most exhibits are PCs and by-developments, personal communicators.Visitors reported there was nothing surprising on AMD and Intel stands. AMD presented an Opteron-based PC among Duron and Athlon systems. Intel demonstrated mainly mobile devices: Mobile Pentium 4 notebooks, wireless components, etc.
![]() ![]() We´ll publish photos and specs of new products as we receive them. Doubtfully there will be anything sensational, though the show already brought some interesting novelties. So, Taiwanese Albatron presented two new motherboards at CeBIT Asia 2002: PX845G/E Silver Edition based on Intel 845G and KX8HT reference board for AMD Opteron based on VIA K8HTA chipset.
