Cooling

The cooler is similar to the one used in RADEON HD 4870/4890, but is larger and has a different heatsink. The turbine drives air through the heatsink inside the long plastic housing and out of the PC enclosure. Due to cooler dimensions, such cards occupy two expansion slots.

Here are the results we obtained with RivaTuner in the baseline review of RADEON HD 5870.

The core temperature doesn't exceed 80°C, which is nice for a modern hi-end graphics card. The cooler remains quiet at that.

Note that ASUS supplies the card with a new version of the Smart Doctor utility that allows increasing clock rates and core voltage.
