Hiper HPU-5B880-PE Power Supply
|
Solutions offered by Hiper are widely known among PC enthusiasts. Today we continue our power supply tests with the review of Hiper HPU-5B880-PE.
The PSU is shipped in the original retail package, a plastic chest with a handle for transportation. Accessories are located in a convenient compartment in the upper part of the chest.
This package doesn't suffer from self-releasing chest locks, a "feature" of the first modification of this package introduced a couple of years ago.
Bundle:
- Package (and accessory box)
- Power cable with European and American outlet adapters
- A set of molex peripheral cables in a nylon bag
- 4 mounting screws
- User's manual in 10 languages
- Two Hiper enclosure stickers
The power supply has a blue metallic enclosure with mirror coating. The 135mm cooling fan is located on the top side. All sides not occupied with any elements are perforated. During operation the fan is backlit with blue LEDs. While this looks great, it's not very convenient from a practical point of view.
The back side features two 4-port USB hubs and a USB power output of 1A output capacity. Thanks to this questionable innovation, more than half of the back side is airproof. Actually, given this power supply and cooling system design, only a small portion of air will exit the PC enclosure, and the major portion will be output inside the PC through PSU sides. We also think that while there is some sense in placing 4 USB ports on the back side, placing 8 of them is unjustified and excessive.
