ABIT SR7-8X
(SiS648) Mainboard
|
This board doesn't stand out here, and it's oriented towards the mid-level
segment doomed by the budget SiS's chipset. Accessories: -
Package of a standard design;
- Documentation: user manual in English;
-
Cables: ATA66/100/133 and FDD;
- Bracket for the rear computer panel;
-
CD containing:
- drivers;
- DirectX 8.1;
-
Norton Antivirus 2002;
- WinDVD 2000 v.2.1;
- 3Deep;
-
BuzzSoft SoftPostCard;
- BuzzSoft SoftCopier;
- BuzzSoft
SoftCardManager;
- BuzzSoft SoftBulkEmail.
The layout is not without the downsides: the audio-ins are in front of the
PCI slots, the FDD is behind them, and the power supply connector is right in
the center, that will certainly worsen air circulation. But it's not difficult
to reach the only jumper when the board is already installed. Its function is
shown on the textolite. The 2-channel switching voltage regulator incorporates
7 capacitors of 2200 uF and 3 of 1500uF. The following controllers are
integrated: - audio controller based on the chipset's capabilities
and Avance Logic ALC201A supporting 4.1 audio systems;
- network
controller based on the Realtek RTL8100B supporting 10BaseT/100BaseTX.
+5V
supplied in the StandBy mode is indicated by the red LED. Non-unsoldered
connectors: none. The system monitoring is supported by the Winbond W83697HF
chip. What is controlled: - voltage of processor, +3.3, +-5 and +-12
V, VBAT;
- speed of 2 fans;
- temperatures of the processor
(a built-in sensor), and the board (a built-in sensor).
There are 2 connectors
for adjustable and 1 for unadjustable connection of fans. Brief characteristics
of the board: memory slots - 3 DDR SDRAM; expansion slots - AGP/ 5 PCI; I/O
ports - 2 COM/ LPT/ 2 PS/2/ 6 USB 2.0; dimensions - 305x245 mm.
Adjustment
can be carried out with:

2.6, 2.7 and 2.8 V | Changeable chipset voltage | - | |
Changeable AGP bus voltage | - | | We
used the latest available version of the BIOS - BA. The board is a good
performer, but it lacks either a noteworthy set of controllers or fascinating
accessories. It fits the bill if cheap and overclockable is what you need.
