iXBT Labs - Computer Hardware in Detail

Chaintech 9SJD (SiS 645) Mainboard

The board looks ordinary: typical yellow textolite and typical capabilities.

  • Package: a new design for this company but with standard pictures;
  • Documentation: a user manual in English;
  • Cables: 1 ATA66/100 and 1 FDD;
  • Sticker showing functional connectors and switches;
  • 2 CD with software including:
    • drivers;
    • user manual in PDF;
    • Adobe Acrobat Reader;
    • Adobe Active Share;
    • Norton Antivirus 2001;
    • Appio;
    • AutoSave;
    • eWalla;
    • ImageMore;
    • XStop.

The layout is not excellent: IDE connectors are behind PCI slots (it can prevent installation of full-sized expansion cards). The AGP connector has a lock for a video card.

The feed circuits incorporate 12 capacitors of 1500 uF and 4 of 1200 uF.

There are the following controllers: C-Media CMI8738/PCI-6ch-MX supporting 6-piece acoustic systems and having a connector for front audio-outs; ITE I/O IT8705F controller supporting MultiMedia Card and Secure Digital Card Reader (the reader connectors are not unsoldered).

Non-unsoldered connectors: IEEE1394 controller, audio codec.

Brief characteristics of the board: memory slots - 3 DDR SDRAM; expansion slots - AGP/ 5 PCI; I/O ports - 2 COM/ LPT/ 2 PS/2/ 6 USB; dimensions - 305x235 mm.

Adjustment can be carried out with:

jumpers and switches Jumper to clear up CMOS
Jumpers to choose a memory frequency 100, 133 and 166 MHz
Jumper to make possible to start up a computer with a keyboard
Jumper to make possible to start up a computer with a mouse/keyboard with a USB connector
Jumper to enable/disable an audio controller
BIOS based on v6.00PG from Award Setup of memory timings + CAS Latency, System Performance
Setup of memory frequency -
Setup of AGP bus +
Setup of PCI bus -
Changeable scaler of AGP and PCI buses -
Manual assignment of interrupts +
Changeable FSB frequency -
Changeable CPU multiplier + x8 - x50
Changeable core voltage -
Changeable memory voltage -
Changeable chipset voltage -
Changeable AGP bus voltage -

The board has average speed capabilities, not a wide range of settings, good stability and a relatively low price, and it must make it popular in many market sectors.
