ASUS P4T-E (i850) Mainboard

ASUS P4T-E
ASUSTeK has just altered the old PCB design for the i850. The blue box
offers you a great deal of accessories: a detailed user's manual, a short
installation manual (in 11 languages), 80-conductor ATA66/100, 40-conductor
ATA/33 and FDD cables, a bracket with two USB ports, 2 C-RIMMs and a CD.
This CD contains a traditional set of programs: drivers for the board,
Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0, ASUS Update, several programs from CyberLink
(PowerPlayer SE, PowerDVD Trial Version, VideoLive Mail), ASUS Hotkey,
Intel LDCM (LANDesk Client Manager), PCCilllin 2000, ASUS PCProbe and the
Asus's screensaver.
The board differs from its predecessor: memory slots are located around
the socket which, in its turn, is turned at right angle against its usual
position. The IDE/FDD are placed, therefore, on the edge, and the latter
one is put at right angle to them, between the memory and AGP slot. The
company installed its own monitoring chip - ASUS AS99127F. Dip-switches
can help change a FSB frequency, and a CPU multiplier, or make possible
to change them in the BIOS Setup. With the switches you can also turn on/off
an audio codec, start up a computer with a USB keyboard and mouse. The
Clear CMOS operation is implemented automatically if the system fails to
start at least one time.
The BIOS is based on the v. Medallion 6.00 from Award and contains a
number of settings which are very common among boards. Here you can, for
example, choose a FSB frequency in 1 MHz steps from 100 to 227 MHz (!),
a CPU multiplier and manually adjust FSB and memory frequencies ratio.
There are also settings for AGP, PCI buses and memory. Besides, you can
assign interrupts to PCI slots.
This ASUS's board worked at an excellent speed and made no problem in
our tests.
