ASUS P4B266-M (i845D) Mainboard
|
It's one more board from this giant. As I mentioned earlier this company
makes every attempt to fill all market segments with its solutions.
Accessories:
- Package: an old design;
- Documentation: a user manual in English;
- Cables: 1 ATA66/100, and 1 FDD;

Windows;

- ASUS PCProbe;
- screensaver.
Despite its mATX format the layout is quite convenient; I just don't
like a USB connector located too close to the front edge and audio-ins
in front of the PCI slots. Besides, it might be difficult to get to the
memory modules when an AGP video card is inserted. It's not difficult to
reach switches and jumpers.
The 3-channel switching voltage regulator incorporates 11 capacitors
of 1500 uF and 3 of 2200 uF.
The following controllers are integrated: an audio one based on capabilities
of the chipset and Analog Devices (AD1885) codec; a network one based on
the Realtek RTL8100 chip supporting 10 BaseT/100 BaseTX.
Non-unsoldered connectors: none.
The system monitoring is supported by the ASUS ASM58 Mozart-2. Processor
voltage (+/-3.3, +/-5 and +/-12 V), speed of 2 fans and a temperature of
the processor (a built-in sensor) can be controlled. There are 2 connectors
for adjustable connection of fans.
Brief characteristics of the board: memory slots - 2 DDR SDRAM;
expansion slots - AGP/ 3 PCI/ CNR; I/O ports - 2 COM/ LPT/ 2 PS/2/ 4 USB
1.1; dimensions - 245x245 mm.
Adjustment can be carried out with:

We used the latest available version of the BIOS - 1003.
The board is average as far as performance and configuration settings
are concerned. It will be an optimal solution for an office computer.
